Comment:
Not only is Dr. Scott an amazing woman as one of the most reputable activists, but she is engaging, fun, and challenging (in the best, Grinnellian way). She challenges you and pushes you beyond your comfort zone with discussions and activities. Be prepared to expand your mind. Also, don't be shy. This is the class to speak up and be engaged.

Her classes seem tough, but she's actually one of the nicer graders I've had-if you put in the work and participate, she's very generous when it comes to grading. She's very busy though, so it's hard to find her even during office hours. Classes are very accessible to nonmajors.

Dr. Scott is one of the coolest human beings you will ever meet. If you ask me, she's the social science version of a brilliant mad scientist/zany professor. Like any mad scientist, she's an organizational nightmare, but if you're willing to relax about your grade in the class, you'll learn so much and have a blast doing it. Go to her office hours!

Dr. Scott is absolutely amazing and infuriating at the same time. Her class lacked structure at times (deviations from syllabus/plans from last class), but she is so passionate that the material being presented takes a back seat to her delivery. All in all, an amazing prof to have if ever given the chance.

Kesho is inspiring, if not a bit out there. Super energy and delivers content that will keep you asking questions well after the course is over. Maybe the teaching doesn't seem organized in the moment--but it will all make sense later.

Kesho is a wild card. I found her Intro class engaging enough (more for her than for the material)- didn't blow my mind open, but I was also a senior. She has a great, fun energy. I got better grades on papers that were weirdimprovised than my more formal ones. I think if you were very shy you might be overwhelmed. But overall an, easy, fun class.

One of the most engaging classes I've ever taking and I'm now studying at the graduate level. Her Race & Ethnicity class made me decide to become a Sociology major and I have modeled several teaching activities after her style. She's hard to find outside of class, if you get a chance to sit down with her she clarifies material and inspires students

Classes are social experiments in utter mayhem. Classes are known for lack of formal organization, and are the highlight of my day. If I were to take another class from her, I would take it pass-fail, because her grading is 100% arbitrary (I was just lucky to get an A). You're not a true Grinellian unless you take a class from Kesho Scott.

Kesho is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. As a fourth year, I have had my share of professors in various departments, and not one comes close to Kesho. Her classes are lively and interactive and very engaging. Readings are interesting, discussions are fun, assignments are thoughtful.

Classes extremely disorganized and frequently do not follow the already poorly organized syllabus. Has missed 2 classes without any notice. In-class "exercises" some of the most useless and condescending things I've ever experienced in college.Assignments are ad-hoc,usually are nowhere to be found on syllabus, and instructions are extremely vague.

Classes were disorganized. We hardly used textbook materials and I didn't learn much about anything. Professor Scott is energetic and is a really cool person to get to know, but the class was not good

THis women is hard to forget, her classes were eye opening nd very egaging. YOu will definately learn in her class, and you will read lots. I will admit her grades are more subjective than numbers based, I would say, take her if you want to raise your awareness of the world around you, DO NOT take her if you're super anal about you GPA and Grade.

Warning--she tends to use class time to 'consciousness-raise' rather than teach. She's rather inconsistant in grading, with your final grade not reflecting work throughout the semester, for example, WITH the exception of her favorites. Be prepared to prove you've suffered 'greater' pain/discrimination/indignation than your classmate.

Kesho is wonderful and a fantastic teacher, but a totally inconsistant grader. We used to refer to it as her "wheel o'grades" because one week you get an A and one week you get a D- and there wasn't a lot of difference between the papers. That being said, she's an inspiration as a woman and a human.

tons and tons and tons of reading!!! Her e-mails were confusing and she never hands anything back on time. However, she's very energetic and her teaching style keeps you engaged. In the end, you learn a lot. If you can look past her idiosyncrasies, the class is worth it.
