Do Not Recommend at all. When you begin taking a class with Dr. Avila, he will tell you that none of your grades start at 100 and you lose points. Instead, you start at 0 and earn each point (not a big deal) except for it is a struggle to earn each point in his class. I just recently made the deans list and still struggle to do well in this class.

I thought at first I didn't like Dr. Avila because he can be vague on what you are doing and I really didn't want to take this class anyway. But, he does give good feedback and seems to care about his students. There was sales presentations, 3 tests that had questions from both book and lecture, and discussion boards.

He didn't answer my questions, and when he did respond, they were either extremely vague or contradictory. Tough grader but won't give any guidance or explanation as to why grade is the way it is. Extremely lecture heavy with lots of irrelevant stories. Boring class.

He assigns projects with ambiguous instructions, isn't available to answer questions and when he does he's rude and treats you like an idiot for even daring to disturb him with your "unworthy" questions, then he grades the project subjectively and based on knowledge that he has NOT taught you or told you where to obtain. No tests, only projects.

Dr. Avila's assignments were so open-ended that you would feel like you could be creative and show what you know. Then you get a 75/100 and he has no explanation for it. He took until the very last week of class to do most of the grading, so I had no idea how I was doing or how to improve.

Sure he might be a little arrogant, but let's face it kids, 99% of successful salespeople are. Bottom line, his specialty is sales, and he's a pro. If you want to have a successful sales career, make sure he knows who you are. Do a good job in his class, ask questions, etc. Because he's got TONS of contacts, and if he thinks you're good, he'll help you get a good job. Get a referral or two from him, and network through him. It will pay off.
