Wonderful professor & a lovely man. I had him for 310 & for Heidegger (his specialty). Class does get boring, so if you need to be constantly entertained or have everything broken down into simple terms, he's not for you. Overall I recommend him if you're smart, write well (he appreciates good writing) & don't mind an old-fashioned teaching style.

This is the second class I've had with Prof. Brinkmann. He really is brilliant but his monotonous and repetitive style makes it challenging to concentrate. I honestly didn't listen after the first midterm and got an A- because the class is paper based. Inspired me to do great independent research for the papers which I was very proud of.

Can be a bit repetitive. But he knows his stuff, and is pretty thorough when he lectures. Doesn't encourage class participation too much. Fair grader.

I have class with Prof. Brinkman now and will be taking class again with him next semester. He's crystal clear, all you have to do is take notes in class and you have all the information you'll ever need for the mid-term and papers. Extremely thorough, class seemed slow at first, but I've absorbed everything I've learned, not just memorized.

Brinkmann is awesome, makes things really clear in class and generally you have at least one breakthrough moment with each philosopher where things all of the sudden make sense. Don't dispute the philosopher too much in exams/papers and go see him with an outline before handing in a paper and you're fine.

Professor Brinkmann is absolutely phenomenal. This is the second class I have taken with him - both were fantastic. He is a sweet, grandfatherly man who is very intelligent and extremely passionate about ancient philosophy. He is a first rate teacher, one of the very best I've had at BU. Loved his classes, wish I could take more with him.

I have read some comments on professor Brinkman as being boring and unintelligible. I think those people were in the wrong class. He is a fair grader, and is passionate about philosohpy. His passion for the subject is amazing. He makes you want to learn. You have to read the material, but his lectures illuminate Plato and Aristotle quite nicely.

This class was awful. Not only were the lectures hard to stay awake for, but what came out his mouth was useless. He graded more on insignificant grammar errors rather than actual ideas. Going to office hours is completely worthless, he belittles you.

Could be an interesting class, and he could have been a smart man. He's unable to communicate his messages with ease and clarity. Old age is definitely taking its toll on him, he forgets what he's saying and stumbles a lot. It gets irritating and the class moves so slowly. If he didn't take attendance no one would go.

Prof. Brinkman is a very kind, very brilliant man who clearly knows philosophy. Grades fairly and accurately. Class was a little tough to handle at 9am, but if you're a morning person, you shouldn't have any problems.

I believe that Prof. Brinkmann actually encourages more class participation than any other professor I have had. I would go so far to say that he occassionally allows people to talk a bit too much. Overall, very nice, good teacher, helpful.

Prof. Brinkmann is a kind, old man who is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. He mantains enthusiasm for the course subject but discourages class participation that varies from the one-word answers he typically looks for.

I had him for my sr thesis and also for PH300. I had had Plato I with Roochnik before, but Brinkmann kept me interested in Plato. A GREAT advisor, really approachable and cool to have in class.
