Love this professor. Loves dry humor, but very friendly one on one. Grades based on first draft and re-writes. Excessive absences will affect your grade, but a few is fine. In class work is easy and interesting. Lots of peer review. If you integrate feedback from first drafts into second, you'll get an A. Watch out for grammatical errors.

Carr is the best professor on campus, hands down. He loves his students and really cares about his work! I've taken him for three separate classes because I knew I would get great feedback in his class and learn the most I could. If you have the option to take Carr, do it!

ABSOLUTELY TAKE THIS CLASS! Insightful and has a great sense of humor. Take his Honors English class as there are only a few papers and lots of peer review/rough drafts. EXTREMELY LENIENT AND FLEXIBLE WITH DUE DATES. My writing has improved a great deal with his class; the only teacher to make me care about English. Easy a!

My favorite professor I've ever had, hands down. He truly cares about his students, and encourages you to push your own limits. We did a lot of peer editing and I got comfortable with sharing my work with the class. Nothing was finalized, whenever we were done with something we could hand it in. Our final was turning in 6 original poems.

Highly recommend! Very laid back, dry sense of humor, but also very friendly. Grades based on participation and five papers - none of them long, and plenty of time to do assignments. If you follow his feedback on first drafts, it's easy to rewrite for an A. I chose to take a morning class just so I could have him as my professor again.

Larry Carr is a gem. He's hilarious. He's inspiring. He truly cares about his students and it shows. Class is easy, one 6 page research paper, and 3 or so smaller papers. Professor Carr is the best teacher I've ever had and instilled my love of writing again. I took a 9:30 next semester instead of an 11am because I wanted him as my professor.

BEST PROF. Extremely helpful, nice, funny, and intelligent. Fun class with reasonable amount of work. Two drafts for everything! Really makes you comfortable with sharing your work with partners and the class. Don't buy book that is on the syllabus, unless he tells you on the first day. I bought it and we didn't need it. Great class!

Carr is one of my favorite professors of all time. He's tough on editing but because of it my writing has improved immensely, and I'm so thankful for that. His classes are interesting and engaging, which is why I sought him out for both CW classes. He is beyond understanding and he genuinely cares about the well-being of his students.

Larry Carr is a magical being. He made a comp type class actually fun. Not only that, but he made me excited to write. It wasn't about grades, but about the creative process. Would 100% take this class again. He's really awesome. TAKE HONORS GENERAL ENGLISH II WITH HIM IF YOU HAVE COMP II TO COMPLETE!!

Really fun class, and renewed my love for writing which has been lacking for a long time. He was very encouraging and helpful. What I loved about the class was that you had endless opportunities to hand in an assignment to keep improving it. He goes off on tangents a lot, but I actually see this as a plus for a CW class

He's brutally honest, sometimes annoyingly so, but I felt like my writing improved from his feedback. I didn't always agree with everything he had to say but he was clear about his feedback. The class itself is not a ton of work, and if you enjoy creative writing you will find yourself breezing through it. He's pretty funny, too.

Had this class for freshman "General Honors English." We did almost no work at all. One personal essay, some poems, and a research essay. The class can be a little boring, but he's a cool guy-- he's got a very dry/sarcastic sense of humor so remember that before writing him off as mean because he's fantastic.

Larry is an archetypally catty theater guy, He's blithe, he's truculent, he's caustic... and he will have a profound influence on your writing because of these qualities, only you'll bemoan at the time that he takes up half the workshop with free-associative lecturing. Quite possibly one of the most underrated professors at New Paltz.

I adore this class and professor. Very smart, passionate, funny, and helpful. I know I am taking away life skills from his class. He is lax about deadlines, but fair, and he really does care about his students. Put in some effort and your writing will definitly improve. Take anything with him if you can! One of the best professors at new paltz.

Carr is good professor. Sometimes I was a bit bored in class. He has a good sense of humor, and is very fair. Understanding if you are sick and can't come to class, but do not continually cut class. Although it was a comp class he incorporated creative writing and I personally really enjoyed this. Nice guy, I recommend his classes.
