He is boring I won't lie. If you aren't a history major and just need it he is your professor. All his quizzes are based on the readings. You do NOT need the text books just his books. He is a good man and an easy A. He focus more on 'doing' history than learning it. Also very religious if that's a problem to some. I recommend him.

At first I hated him and messed around a lot in his class but when push came to shove he gave me a huge break at the end of the semester. A great man, however a boring professor. If you do all the work and the readings before the exams, you will get an A - no questions asked. Gives tons of extra credit, do it! It helps! No textbook necessary

Dr. Hogan does not require you to get the textbook but gives out a lot of readings. he always tells you what to study for the quizzes and they are fairly simple , if you read. He expects you to be in class and pay attention, if you do not, he will call you out. He is funny and he cares about his students and the work you present. highly recommend

Prior taking his class, I had little interest in history, however, after attending his classes, I learned many things that I didnt know before. I was amazed by how he made history pertinent and showed how historical events molded our present. If you do the extra credits HW, and tie the history together, you will do well.He is the best!

Super Easy-No textbook necessary-Very easy/little reading required-Very easy quizzes-prepared for the midterm and final before hand-No due dates on papers. The only thing this class requires is some intelligent thought. Professor Hogan appreciates a student who can take a lesson and apply it to the whole on a large scale-That is history!

I loved this professor! He teaches history in the most interesting way. He teaches through the first person accounts of historical figures. You'll read Plato's republic. You'll read and decipher ancient Egyptian prayers. What better way to understand the historical events and cultures of these people without their own words? GREAT CLASS. Period.

The students rating this professor poorly are incredibly misguided. This class was THE MOST thought provoking wonderful lesson in history that I have ever had. Professor Hogan has an amazing sense of humor, great personality, and is EASY if you do the little work he asks? What is wrong with these students? BEST PROFESSOR at UCC!

I want my money back! Hogan took us on a JOURNEY to nowhere. This is why many students at UCC don't like coming to class because it's a waste of time, and they can teach themselves the course now with reading books and using the internet and it wont cost a penny. If anyone from UCC is reading this please reevaluate your teachers.Hogan was pathetic!

Don't take him if you're a history major, because you won't learn what you'll be expected to know in higher courses. Wastes lots of time and covers religion more than anything. Total christian apologist. If you don't know what that means, and just want to knock out your his-101 requirement, take him, you'll do fine. Dont bother buying the textbook.

He gave enough time for all assignments and test. I do not like history, he made it more bearable. He offers many extra credit assignments. As long as you do the reading, you will do well in his class.

The man may have a doctorate's, wrote his own textbooks, yet he still doesn't know how to teach Western Civ! Not only does he not know how to teach, but he also gets mad if you ask him any questions! Not helpful what so ever. Whatever you do, do not take him!

Oh boy. Where do I start? This guy is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. I don't know what he talks about half of the time and when he does speak, he practically whispers. I honestly feel like not going to that class anymore. It's a complete waste of my time. Not only does he bore you to sleep, but he doesn't even talk about Western Civ.

Western civ is the last thing this guy teaches. all he talks about is african american history and any other topic BUT western civ.... his lectures are VERY boring and choppy. half the time i have no idea what he's talking about and he never makes a point. he assigns a lot of papers that have nothing to do with the course. TERRIBLE. do not take!!

This man is such a joke, that it isn't even funny! He is supposed to be teaching "Western Civilization", but instead goes on and on about American history. Do the smart thing, and don't even waste your money on this man.

Pros: Very lenient when it comes to handing in papers on time and tons of Extra Credit available. We go over the exam the class before each one. Cons: Extremely boring. Talks about God and Jesus more than actual history. A ton of papers. Spent 2 weeks on a syllabus! Learned NOTHING related to Western Civ. Jumps back and forth between years.

Professor Hogan is very interesting. I'm not really a fan of history and after taking his class I'm still not a fan. However he is very passionate and that is rather enjoyable. I don't particularly love going to class just because it doesn't interest me. Buy his textbooks, read, and you'll do fine. He is the king of EC! No excuse for failing!

Dr. Hogan was the most interesting teacher I have ever had and I finished his class more than satisfied. He was able to teach by just telling us stories about the lesson, literally! He MADE HIS OWN textbooks, and they were awesome. He definately opens your eyes to the world and the history of it. I would take his class again any day.
