FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT DECIDED WHICH POLITICAL SCIENCE CLASS TO TAKE, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. THIS CLASS WAS BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I JUST WANT OTHERS TO BE WARNED AND AWARE THAT THIS COURSE IS NOT EASY. LARRY WAS A GREAT PERSON, BUT NOT SUITABLE FOR TEACHING A 100 CLASS. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hardest class Ive ever taken. Lectures are too long and boring. Mostly goes off topic and half of the time the class is on hold because theres always something wrong with the technology he uses. The GAs are tough graders and try their best to help but at the end it doesnt help much.

He gives really dense lectures and there are weekly quizzes. He gives 3 research papers and a multiple choice test which are fairly difficult. He did bump my grade at the end of the semester though. You can get the A if you understand whats going on

The lectures will put you to sleep. He tends to go off on tangents so be ready for that. The text book is mostly supplemental, I hardly opened it at all throughout the semester. The most important resource is the Globalyceum access code you need to buy. He doesnt make it effortlessly easy but the class isnt difficult.

This was by far one of my more difficult GE's of the semester. His lectures tend to get really boring and he spends a big portion of his time lecturing on one slide. His GA's have graded the midterm papers and they were pretty tough graders as well. Your grades are based on 3 midterm papers, your top 5 scores on globalyceum (online), and 50 mc.

Lectures seem to only touch on a couple of things on the test which is nothing when we have 3 midterms and an accumulative final, all of which are 50 questions. If you don't have prior knowledge, it's difficult to pass. There's an extra credit, highly recommend you take advantage of that. Martinez is intelligent however his teaching is not ideal.

Larry is very passionate about what he teaches, but unfortunately he does not always stay on topic when lecturing. A lot of times he goes off on tangents and things become confusing very quickly. Also, there is readings every week and if you don't read, you won't pass the tests. (coming from someone who usually always passes without reading)

took this class over the summer. 4 days, 10 chapters with 2 or 3 chapter readings per day. quiz due every night. If you are not willing to actively read so much per day, do not take this class over the summer. The quiz questions are from very specific material, so you MUST read. Professor Martinez is overall very interesting and approachable!!!

no homework/extra credit offered/lectures are posted/he goes off topic frequently/he knows what he's talking about/willing to guide and help you/always asks if students have any questions from reading/textbook will help you with exams/often times lecture based exam questions/hard to stay awake/take home essay same night as exam days/nice guy

Professor Martinez is a nice guy, when he does show up to class. But when he lectures, he goes in depth of things irrelevant to the exams. There are 3 midterms (multiple choice and take-home essay) and a cumulative final. The extra credit was what brought my grade up. Beware, this is not an easy GE class. Stay away or good luck.

He's funny and really does care about the subject he's teaching and tries to make it interesting (but fails a bit). All tests and papers are extremely dependent on the book and he grades under the assumption that you've read it like 3 times over and over. His lectures are a bit boring and super complicated, you don't retain much. Hard grader too...

Took POSC 199 in the summer. We had 4 class sessions for 4 hours, with a quiz on the assigned readings at the end of each session. The quizzes are hard, tricky, and refer to specific material from the readings. Prof. Martinez is a really cool and funny guy. He does ramble on and get off-topic often, but he appreciates the in-class participation.

Interesting lectures. I learnt a lot. Got me interested in politics. I would highly recommend this teacher. 3 quizzes, 3 papers, 1 final exam and an extra credit project.

He is a great person. His POSC100 class is based on three midterms and a final. Most of the material comes from his lectures. I am not a fan of politics which is why it was difficult for me to pay attention. He does give out study guides that are very helpful for the test. I don't recommend you miss any midterms because the makeup is 10page paper

He really wants you to understand the material, even if it won't be on the exam. He'll spend a long time on a slide of the powerpoint but it won't be on the exam. He always asks if anyone had any questions before he begins his lecture. The study guide will have a list of topics that will be on the exam. Final is compilation of previous midterms.

Literally worst person ever. He spends all class not talking about anything that will be on the test then releases the study guide days before the test where you have to go out and teach yourself. He barely even shows up for class. But expects you to just know everything. His powerpoints suck and doesn't provide any information. Stay away.

Good teacher. Lectures a little long but are really interesting. No quizzes, but 3 midterms and 1 final. Each midterm has 40-50 mult. choice questions, and one 24-hour take-home essay. Each exam is fairly easy if you pay attention at least 80% of the time in class, and complete the study guides. I don't like POSC, but was motivated by him to learn.

You definitely learn a lot, even in topics that have nothing to do about politics. Quizzes are every week and easy to pass even if you don't do the reading. Midterms are tough. A very knowledgeable person, though, and it's clear he knows what he's talking about.
