Comment:

People said she needed to retire in 2004. 7 years later, she really needs to retire. She edited our primary text book and clearly would be great 1 on 1, but she spent 20 minutes trying to learn our names for 2 months of our class sessions. She actually taught for maybe 20% of the classes she attended, and missed plenty of them.

Laurie is an acquired taste. She is scattered and disorganized and digresses every five minutes in class. BUT she is incredibly intelligent and passionate about both the material she is teaching and about her students. She is THE MOST committed teacher here and will meet with you any time out of class and is a super dedicated committee member.

Comment:

Laurie is incredibly intelligent. Her classes are her life, so she is always available to help. She spends the majority of class complaining about the hub. Sometimes in her lectures, the TA had to keep her from ranting. As long as you were capable of doing independent research, you were bound to pass the class with or without doing the homework.

Comment:

Laurie knows her stuff, and she's a very sweet person. I had some trouble learning from her because she can get distracted by telling stories about economisist conventions.. I think that this particular course was rather weak but will be better the next time she teaches it. Also, she didn't seem as distracted by health problems as I'd expected.

She is a really wonderful woman. Her material is outdated, but as an intro level class, she creates a strong foundation on your studies. She is really smart, and has done a lot in her field of study. Yay Laurie!

Comment:

Laurie is simply brilliant. Only drawback is ongoing health problems. She is extremely on the ball, in contast to other Hampshire professors, and exceptionally helpful as an advisor. Given the chance, she dominates the class with lecture and review, which often drift into digressions over current news or health issues. Labor history was challenging and interesting and I highly recommend it. Despite her health problems, she is also very reliable and capable. Awesome professor!

I love Laurie! She's just incredible. She's really very knowledgeable about the subject that she is teaching, and she's the sweetest woman on earth. She is one of the most on top of things professors here at Hampshire.
