He is so amazingly clear and helpful when he walks through the hw with us when he gives it back. he will help you along outside the class and he welcomes questions. if you are in teh major you will see him through out your undergrad career.

Took this class during Winter session, homework everyday from finals week to the last day of class AKA the first day of Spring semester. The class was more difficult then I thought. If your just doing it for credit pick another course, its wayyyy too much work and time spent for a class you don't care about.

Prof. Bickmore knows his stuff, his explanations are a little hard to decipher but he really wants you to learn. He's also extremely nice and easy to approach.

I took this class online this summer and overall was a great class. Not too much homework for a 4 week course, everything was spread out. The book was necessary as that's where the homework comes into play. Homework was easy at first, then got harder over the next few chapters, he didn't explain too great online so it was tough, overall good class.

While this class would seem like a straightforward introduction class, it's anything but that. Assignments start off easy and simple, with discussions, readings, and short films, but as you get further into the chapters, homeworks become near impossible, and are graded ridiculously. One essay and a couple of tests, would not take again. Not easy.

I just recently finished the summer session course. I imagine it's more lax than the regular course. However, he manages to keep it interesting enough to go through a month of linguistics. I came into the course with prior interest, but, you learn a lot from him, whether online like me (or, I've had friends who had him and enjoyed his teaching.

Taught with sheets that you had to print out before class. Was helpful. Section was a good review on the confusing factoids. Midterm very easy and final extremely hard.

Open book/notes midterm and final, 11 homeworks with the lowest score dropped. Great professor, covers all of the material in depth with tons of examples.

If it were not for Bickmore, I would not have been a linguistics major. He is wonderful. He is always willing to answer questions and help you out. I went into his office almost in tears from an Advanced Phonology hw, and he walked me through anything that I'd done wrong very patiently. He is an asset to the University at Albany.

I took this class a long time ago. Prof. Bickmore is great. He is excited about the material and is an amazing teacher. I ended up with a Linguistics minor because of my positive experience in this class.

He is a very nice teacher, the class is boring the material is hard and ridiculous. His TA's are TERRIBLE, not helpful or understanding. I would avoid this class if its possible!

I took him for 220 also, and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be minoring in ling at the moment (if I had taken the class sooner, I may have been majoring). Very helpful and open to anyone's ideas

I didn't like this class, but it was required. Bickmore seemed like a nice guy but most students never interacted with him... just the two (hard to follow) TA's. With a little effort, you will get above a B.

Awesome professor! Really stimulated the interest in the class, did everything he could to make everyone understand. Gesticulates very theatrically, although he seems to occassionally get a nervous tic... very nice man, open to everyone's ideas.

Probably one of the best teachers I have had so far. He was so friendly and helpful, and he really just made my class really interesting. He challenged his students but left the discussion to us and let us do the thinking. He was always available to help out and was always just an all around nice guy.
