Dr Lewis Coburn is super unlike what a lot of people said. I got an A grade for MTH 141. He gives everyone a chance to perform well. Go for his reviews at least, I can guarantee you an A grade or maybe worst case you might get an A-. Thank you Dr. Lewis Coburn and all the very best to the upcoming students who plan to take MTH 141 or his class.

Coburn doesn't talk very loud so I had to sit in the front. His lectures consists of proving theorems, if applicable, and going over homework problems.

Comment:
Coburn's a mediocre professor. His lectures are unstructured and he makes up his lesson plan on the spot. He randomly emphasizes topics he enjoys rather than topics which are important to analysis. The class is an easy A because he gives the same easy tests every year and tells you what he's going to put on them ahead of time. Lowest test dropped.

Comment:
His method of "teaching" is going over the homework in class and at least 85% of the entire class is always lost. He does give a reasonable amount of homework and he doesn't check or collect it. But if you really want to understand anything and make your life easier for MTH142, you should attend recitation or you're better off studying on your own.

From somebody who has a passion for math and almost a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT, he really has made me hate math and I am nearly failing the class. He doesn't teach you ANYTHING therefore you're better off not even going to lecture and teaching yourself all of the material.

Coburn was an awful professor. What he says doesn't make sense; if you didn't take AP Calculus before taking his class, then good luck. He expected you to know all the material beforehand. He didn't even teach, just did some math proofs and rambled about random things. If you're looking for a professor who doesn't teach you anything, he's it.

I would not recommend him. He talks to the board the whole class. His lectures are going over homework we did the mighty before that we haven't even learned yet and that's how he teaches. He has a review class before a test and will lay out what's on the exam but the test will have stuff he said we didn't need to know and questions 5x harder.

I took Calc I in high school and still struggled a lot in this course. I went to his office hours to ask about problems I got wrong on the exam and instead of helping me, he took off more points and I walked out with a lower test score. I would advise not taking him if possible.

There isn't a worse professor. I only did well in this class because i took it in high school and taught myself all new material. He has no clue what he's doing half the time. Theres no point to listening to lecture because you won't learn anything. The only essentials for this class are a charged computer, headphones, and netflix

Coburn is not my favorite professor BUT! he does understand that mth431 or mth419, etc. classes are extremely tough on undergraduates. So he makes it easy on you. you will have to work your ass off for an A, but he has personally told me that as long as the student puts in the proper effort he wont grad lower than a C. 4 exams low one is dropped

Have to say, all around enjoyed everything about this class. Homework was simple and we always shared a nice laugh in class. Wish he had more cacti in the room though that'd be pretty sweet lol. All in all, I strongly recommend this professor. UB, UB, UB ! :-) :-) :-)

Sometimes has trouble explaining things in lecture. A couple of the exams aligned closely with the homework questions. However, tests start to deviate from the material later in the class and there was once a question that even the TA said he wouldn't have gotten. The grade is based only on 4 exams and homework is optional but recommended.

Wow. I mean wow. I have never seen a worse math professor in my life. If you have this guy and have taken up to Pre-Calc in high school, MARK MY WORDS. DROP. RESIGN. Transfer to a different professor. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I got 40s and 60s on all my tests and got a C for my final average which means bc its curved everyone else did as bad as me.

I took calculus in high school and it is the only reason that I did well in his class. He knows his material, but he does not communicate well with those listening. Talks to the board, writes on the dirty board, likes to prove things rather than teach concepts, and grades the first exam like an english essay wanting proof for the math you just did.

Dr. Coburn's lectures are full of mumbling but the tests are somewhat fair and similar to the homework questions. It's nice that he doesn't give any quizzes and spends class time to review before a test.

I had him for my first semester of freshman year and he is one of the worst teachers that i had so far. His lectures are very had to follow since most of the time his talking to the board. when to his office our once never to go again since he wasn't very helpful. If you want to get a good grade go to recitation your TA is better a better teacher.

Not helpful AT ALL. Worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. I have taken Calculus before and am failing. I go to every lecture, do homework and get 100s on the quizzes but what he says in class is so unclear and his tests have 4 questions that are unrelated to subject matter. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is incredibly rude as well.
