Hes a little hard to understand the first few classes but youll get used to it. Hes very smart and very helpful. He really does care about his students and hes a good teacher despite the poor reviews. Pay attention and go to tutoring as much as you can and youll find that its not so bad. This class requires a lot of effort and studying.

Half the time he can't even explain what he's teaching us, he gets confused, and lots of times he does problems wrong and has to redo them multiple time, it is very very hard to learn in his class!!!!

Absolutely terrible teacher. You can not understand his lectures and his tests do not have anything to do with the lectures. Unless you spend 30 hours a week outside of lecture teaching yourself chemistry you will not do well. I am still surprised Aquinas has not fired this teacher considering how many students write to the dean.

Initially he may seem like he does not care about you or your grades but, once you really do get to know him, he genuinely does want you to do well so GO AND SEEK HELP if needed. His test are hard but, all of the problems are in the book and the lecture. If you can do those you are golden for his class.

I have no idea. I dropped this class because I had such a low grade. His accent IS a bit problematic but he is pretty nice. If needed, go to the tutoring sessions and ask for help. You might have to do some self-teaching which is pretty terrible.

Take the class somewhere else. Chen is an awful professor. He keeps you over makes your exams double the length of the class time. He can never tell you your grade in the class. He doesn't give partial credit even though he says he does.

Comment:
Dr. Chen's chemistry class was the most challenging class I have ever taken, but it was also the most rewarding. His accent may make him a bit difficult to understand at points, but as soon as you get used to it the accent is not an issue. He is incredibly willing to help and cares greatly about his students. Overall, Dr. Chen is a great professor.

You may hate him while in the class, but honestly he's a really good professor and will challenge you to the extreme. I got an A in his class, which is rare but took a daily devotion to chemistry. He is always willing to take time aside to help you. and you need to spend AT LEAST 10-15 hours studying outside of class.

He is a tough teacher, but he will make time to help you out. Concepts not addressed in class will be on the exam if they were part of the reading, so READ and do problems. More about understanding versus memorization, therefore test questions can sometimes seem abstract, but if you understand the concepts you should be fine.

Rude, condescending, CE students AVOID HIM! cannot comprehend that students have other responsibilities other than just chem homework, like full time jobs! thinks everyone should get chemistry right away and comes off as very rude if you don't. PLAN ON TEACHING YOURSELF cause you won't get help from him, and lectures are pointless.

His class will only add to a cynical view of undergrad education. Curves test to avoid taking responsibility for class avgs in the 40's. Pre-health students be advised, you need A's in Orgo if you want to continue your education. This teacher does not teach. Unless you can teach yourself what many consider the hardest prereq, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

If people would give him a chance they would see that he is one of the best profs at AQ. He's not our to get everybody, he's out to challenge you. Like all good profs do.
