Lisa is a very smart person, no doubt about that, but she is not good at teaching. In CS101 this was manageable with a rudimentary knowledge of Java and the help of your classmates, you could squeeze by but in upper level courses it's an absolute nightmare. My entire class nearly failed CS221 due to her inadequacy. 0/10 AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Lisa is probably the best CS professor I have had. She is so kind and helpful in OH and makes you feel good about yourself and your skills. Homeworks were really fun and the final projects were interesting! I wish I could take another class with her!

Solid choice for CS101. Not the most amazing professor but you will certainly learn from her, so that's good! Occasionally she'll bring in candy - I'll take her class again purely for that! Sometimes she seems to think students know more than they actually do, so just be careful abt that!

Very friendly. Her lectures are a little blurry, and it was difficult to understand in class. When she gives time for working in pairs in class, she is open for questions, and doesn't leave your side until she knows you understand. TAs super helpful. Doing the reading is a must to understand anything. Ask as many questions as you can!!!

This class can be time consuming. She gives reasonably time to complete assignments(usually a week). Midterm and final are easy as long as you do the practice exams and know the concept you'll do fine. The assignments, labs, and homework count more towards your grade so do well on them. The TAs are also very helpful.

she is a nice person but she cannot teach well, at least for me, i don't understand what she is talking about for the most of time. I asked her but her explanation made me even more confused. fortunately, you can always go to ask TAs, they are more helpful in helping me learn this course. The mid term and finals are much easier compare to homework.

Sometimes there for office hours, sometimes not there. Would take forever to respond to emails.I would advise that you take a class on another campus or with another instructor. She means well and is a nice person outside of the classroom but can be very unclear when teaching. Her teaching style might slightly improve if she prepares ahead of time.

her energy kept me awake & focused every lecture. i loved that she related abstract concepts to real life examples. Very clear & makes sure students understand concepts. Once you go past her straightforward style, you see very clearly her patient side & she gives you the time in her office. An amazing person with a vibrant spirit.

Her lectures are tedious and useless. Everything I learned in the class I got from the book. When I found myself stuck on a vital concept in the book, I went to office hours for help, where she was actually kind of rude to me and didn't ever get around to helping me on the concept. I don't think she's capable of communicating the subject clearly.

So nice, kind, helpful,funny! Her lectures are really challenging and the workload is very very heavy. But don't be intimated by this. You will learn a lot. The only issue is her poor communication skill... Sometimes she basically doesn't understand what question students are asking and we don't know what answer she is expecting...

If you want to get As on her tests, you NEED to study from the lecture slides, and not just the night before. She's pretty helpful about office hours, and usually has a ton of chocolate in her office if you ask. :)

Disregard that comment about Lisa making people cry. I know when I read it, I was really intimidated by her, but after bravely stepping into her office on several occasions--for help, no less!--I found her to be really patient and helpful. Grades tough, but you'll learn a lot, and for the better!

Although she's usually o.k. and only sometimes confusing in class, one on one she can make you feel intimidated. I had trouble with one concept and asked her about it and she practically asked me if I were lying about not understanding it. That sort of turned me off of office hours. However, outside of class she's nice and funny too.
