Comment:

Come to class, participate and complete her practice exam questions and you will do fine. I have had her for 2 classes now and have loved both of them. She is very fair and caring. an eg. 1st exam: came to class, read chapters assigned, did practice questions, got a 95%. . All other exams: didn't bother with the readings and still got high 80s.

The group aspect of her classes is painful. Dr Laurie encourages participation but is not able to steer the discussion somewhere with academic merit. Inevitably, the 10% of the class who loves the sound of their own voice dominate conversation. Copy her notes exactly and reiterate exactly on exams. Critical thinking is not required.

I've taken SOCI1100, GERO2501 and SOCI3513 with Laurie. Her grading scheme and expectations are consistent with each course. She does require a lot of readings - but she picks texts that are easy to read. She prepares you for her midterms and exams very well. If you do the readings, show up to class and do her practice questions youll be fine.

I love Lori Forbes. She is a great prof, she makes you work for the grades you want but gives you a tone of support and help on assignments. Tests are right from the course content. Take her classes, they are great!

It's important to attend classes because the notes aren't online, and participation makes up 10% of your final grade. That said, Dr. Forbes gives great notes and shows relevant videos. She gives a fantastic exam review- my final exam was made up entirely of the practice questions! As long as you put in the work, you will do well.

Comment:

One of the best profs I have had at Lakehead. She has a very clear marking criteria, and makes her expectations for exams and papers very clear, making it easy to succeed if you do the work. She is very easy going and makes learning fun - actually though. Its almost inspiring to have a teacher with so much knowledge that is also so down to earth.

some courses are ok, BUT avoid taking Soci1100 with this prof. If you are not sociology student, if you don't have a lot of time, don't take it with her.It's a huge class, little help/attention is given. The 3 hour in class lecture is brutally boring. If you are thinking about soci1100 as an elective, choose Econ or Geography intead

Very specific expectations for test answers. Lots of notes. Always write down group questions and other groups answers they come back on the tests. Practice exam questions are helpful. Go to class, it's easy marks and often an answered group question in class is one you can write answered in class on the exam!

Lots of notes that go into very basic detail, you need to write down what she SAYS not what she gives you. Lots of group questions (WRITE DOWN THE OTHER GROUPS ANSWERS!). Her tests are hard, she says she gives you the questions before hand and then only about 3 show up. She is nice and an easy marker though. Still, try to avoid if possible.

Lori is one of the greatest professors at Lakehead. She is so sweet, and really wants her students to do well. Go to class and you will actually learn something each an every day! Actually study the questions she gives you at the end of each unit and you will do well in the class!

She is so great. A really amazing women. She is always willing to help, and she makes near notes very clear. She basically gives you all the questions for the exams so if you study that stuff, you will do great. She does group questions every class, and 10% of the mark comes from that participation, so go to class. I love Laurie!

Comment:

Notes are long, however she incorporates student participation in each class which makes it a little easier. She doesn't seem very invested into helping students; each time I asked for clarity she referred me to "google." Overall, fair marker, informative classnotes, and dedicated to sociology.
