Professor Cary is the sweetest educator I've had at Alabama. She is sweet but is also very clear in explaining what she wants from her students. One of the few professors whose anecdotal comments are actually relevant and stay in line with the class discussion/curriculum. A true southern gentlewoman. Highly recommended!

She's fun and easy. Class is enjoyable and you get to know everyone. Highly recommended to fulfill FA requirement. The beginning of the course is really boring but after you finish the literature section, it's pretty easy and fun.

I would not take this class again.This is a really hard class.There was 10 page paper, 5 page paper,& articles.If you aren't doing well there is not any bonus credit besides on one of the articles.Attendance is a big. You can only miss class 2/3 times depending on the days you have it.The subject was interesting though and help was always available

She's a good professor but she makes the class a lot more involved than it needs to be. There's a lot of outside work ( two 10 page papers, 3 book reports, and a notebook of articles you have to collect during the semester). If you need help she is always willing to help in any way possible. If you know what you're getting into this is a good class

I was excited about the topic of this class"Southern Values"but quickly realized that it was an inaccurate representation of the subject of the class. Instead it was about CivilWar Reenactors&DrCary pretended to be an English professor assigning 2-10page papers&several book reports As long as you know what youre getting into then it's not too hard.

I LOVED this class! I mean, sure we had to write 2 5-page papers, but seriously, how often do you get to write papers about parodies? She's kind of goofy, but she's so nice. It's an easy class if you make sure you get your work done (and there isn't a lot, so you have NO excuse not to). Take it if you need Honors/Fine Arts credit!

Much better than Arts of Tuscaloosa. I spent about a total of 10 hours doing work for the class all semester. She keeps it very interesting, and the class structure is awesome.

I loved Dr. Cary, she is the sweetest woman. There are two books which are very interesting. This entire class centers around active discussion, so you MUST read the texts. There is also a lot of writing involved: two 10-page research papers and 3 out of class book critiques. However, this helped improve my overall writing and I learned A LOT.

I really enjoyed this class. Be sure to read so you can discuss the material in class becuase participation is a big part of the grade. You also have to write 2-10 page papers, but she is very helpful with these. Great class if you don't mind the writing. I recommend.

i really enjoyed this class. the material was interesting, and dr. cary is very helpful and enthusiastic about the class. participation is very important; just do your work, go to class, smile, and be nice. easy A, if you are a halfway decent writer and aren't afraid of two 10-page research papers. highly recommend as a 3 hour UH course.

She's a very sweet lady, and cares about her students. The reading is not much fun, and some not understandable, but she's so excited about it, it doesn't matter if you have nothing to say, she can talk forever. She requires two ten-page papers, but grades easily. Not fun, but worth the UH hours.
