Comment:

Yes, he's stern, but I learned a lot in his class so it was well worth it. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take his class. His was one of the few graduate level courses that actually felt like a graduate level course in terms of having to know the material in order to do well.

You will have a paper due and a quiz every week. Most of the material the paper is over is at least two chapters of material. And the quiz could be at least 30 pages of reading. He grades really hard and he will make you feel stupid. If you can take a different class I would highly recommend it.

I have taken every course at UTC taught by Ellington,as well as an Independent Study under his tutelage. In his classes, as it should be in all endeavors of worth, you will either participate or fail. He is tough but fair and extremely knowledgeable of course content. Nothing touchy feely about the good Doc. You want kumbaya, talk to Partridge.

He is very firm in his opinion. He grades extremely hard and will not give higher than an 93 on weekly paper grades because he claims no paper can be perfect. Therefore, it is hard to bring your grade up. He is not helpful, and class is stressful because he forces participation. It was an unenjoyable class. I was disappointed, and he was often rude

Nobody on the face of the Earth cares as much about Asia as this man. This class was from 5 o'clock to 7:30 PM and he milked every boring second out of it. You better get to class on time or you will miss the quiz. The exams are long and essay-based. However, if you hate Common Core, Lucien is the guy for you.

Makes education exciting. Very knowledeable and forces students outside of their comfort zones to examine their own beliefs about education. You HAVE to do the work to keep up in the class. He expects a lot, but you get a lot in return.

The class is hard, but I have grown complacent with the Education Dept., so it was nice to actually be in a class that was challenging. I had trouble with the quizzes, but he gave me some strategies for preparing for them that I thought was helpful. Also, the papers are super easy. I don't get why people find a two page summary difficult.

Painful! This is an awful class! I do not mind working, so be clear about my review. He treats students like children. We are adults who work and have families. Yes, he is very intelligent and knowledgeable about the material, but he is painful to deal with. He is too interested in his plan, meal schedule and OCD self to make the class interesting!

Ellington is a great professor. He has very high expectations for his students. Requireslots of work. Nice to finally be challenced by an EDUC class at UTC and get my money's worth for once. He is a bit quirky and unapproachable, but has good intentions. The only students who do not like this class are the ones who do not want to do any work.

He's irascible and rude. Do not speak to him unless you absolutely have to. However, he is up front about what he expects from you and there are no surprises. You won't look back on him in 30 years and think about what a great guy he was, but if you show up and do what you're supposed to, you'll do okay.

You can learn so much from this man. The class is tough and very demanding but I think it is about time that Education students actually have to study. We have so many easy classes that it was nice to be challenged. The only people who don't like him are people who are not interested in learning.

Knowledgable and focused, yes. Exellent curriculum, somewhat. Helpful, not at all. He is arrogant and closed-minded. When approached, he would rather spout about what he thinks you should know than listen to your question. He seems to view students as cogs in the machine of academia, rather than as people. I think he may be intentionally detatched.

Ellington opened my eyes on the best way to teach social studies. People do not like him because he has different ideas about education that happen to be right. When you are right people never seem to agree with you. People also resent his wealth of knowledge. And people are mad that they do not know as much history as they should.

This professor was awful and really unhelpful. His only advice for me was to read the chapters three times before we had our quizzes (one every day by the way). He also grades pretty unfairly on essays.
