What an awesome guy. His lectures make the dense and sometimes tedious reading material so much clearer. I always hated philosophy but he made me appreciate it. Would definitely recommend him.

Boon is a nice guy, and he is upfront with you. His course material is awful, however. The course descriptions are misleading. One of the assignments in the English class I took was a creative/fine arts project worth 30%. Why??? The readings were lame. No thanks.

Awesome class of your looking for a good mark. Missing this class occasionally is not detrimental to your grade. Quite a few assignments and essays that are redundant. 8 essays/journals. Assignments allow for reativity, and flexibility.

Prof Boon clearly knows his stuff, but I think that he does not extensively cover the readings that were assigned weekly. He'll go through certain parts of readings but I feel this isn't sufficient enough for a GOOD understanding of theorists and their concepts. Also found a lot of the readings dry and/or unclear. Hated doing those journals, too.

TERRIBLE!!! This course and prof. is VERY overrated! First of all: he is NOT CUTE OR HOT, Second of all: if this course had ANY potential you can be damn sure he ruined it. Third of all: the reading list was the terrible (I'll read Mrs. Dalloway 5 times before I'll read any of these books ever again!). The best part of his lectures: the end!!!!

This course was one of my favorites because not only was it very critical of the works studied but it also left alot of room for student participation and creativity. I am actually reading Road of Excess by Marcus Boon and it is very interesting. I would have loved to have taken his 4000 level course From T.S. Eliot to Missy Eliot. Take this class.

So nice to find an English prof who looks at books in context. Boon is hilarious, and his class was by far my favourite of the year. Didn't like most of the reading but that didn't make the course less fun, because you learn a lot anyway. Also nice that Boon leaves room for creativity in the course.

DO NOT take this course if you are into in depth analysis of literary texts. If you are; however, interested in historical background on periods and authors then this is your course. I personally didn't pay $1000 to learn history, i thought i was paying for English. Terrible lecturer and awefull reading list!!!!
