Dr. Boren's class was always one that I looked forward to. Our class was set up in discussion style & he really took advantage of that opportunity, engaging with the students and even letting us take over sometimes. He always kept the discussion interesting with jokes & sarcastic remarks. This was a great midday breakup from my otherwise drawl day.

Whatever Doctor Boren teaches, I sign up for every semester. His class is discussion based, educational, entertaining, while not being difficult outside of the couple papers he will assign each semester. If you are a Lit Studies major, take this class!

You definitely have to participate in class. On many occasions my class didn't talk about the books so he just threw us out of class and I knew our grades all dropped because of that. His grading is harsh but fair, he can tell when you actually put in effort. Also, if you e-mail him your essays before they are due he will give you some feedback

I love this guy! He is hilarious and engaging. He is also very kind and down to earth. He constantly shares random info on a zillion topics you never knew you wanted to learn about. Papers were fun. Class was fun. I love analysis so I enjoyed this class, but you could struggle if you aren't the best writer. he will help you though! take him!!

Absolutely LOVED this class. I did not expect to have as much fun as I do in this class and its all because professor Boren is so funny! Its a really laidback course with a few papers but he is clear about what he wants in the papers. You do have some reading but its normally really short and you just spend class time discussing. TAKE IT!!!

I took ENG 290 as an honors section. My favorite class of the semester. Only homework was ready books + 3 essays in the entire semester. You are expected to participate in discussion of the books, but it's a blast. I spent every class period laughing really hard. Great teacher, genuinely cares about his students. I will definitely take him again.

Professor Boren is insane. I took American Romanticism with him and he made Emerson, Thoreau and Melville hilarious. His grades are fair, his feedback is great, and he gives you a lot of freedom with what you want to write about. Conversations in class were always fun and everyone willingly participated. Haven't met any student who didn't love him!

Great English teacher. I've been lucky and had some great English professors but this one by far was the best. Really interesting lectures and helps out if you need extra time on a paper. Usually have to do some writing but as long as you get the material, you'll ace this class.

Dr. Boren is the most chill professor I have ever had. He is quiet and funny and lets the class decide when they feel like turning in papers. LOVED this class! I thought I was going to hate the books he chose but I was hooked once we would start talking in class discussions.
