It's sad to see such a brilliant professor have such a low rating. Delancey changed the way I interepret literature and was willing to help me at every step along the way. If you want to grow as a human being, take his class. You will work for your grade, but that's how it should be. Loyola is lucky to have him.

Thought would be a blow-off as a core course, but it was actually my most stressful classes of the semester, and I took that my sophomore year! He's the prof that takes the most insignificant detail in a book and elaborates on it for an entire lecture, relating it to a similar word with the greek root of that, etc. Surprised about my grade still.

This class was terrible. His syllabus was WAAY off. It doesn't even have the right textbook needed for class, or the same schedule. He is very unclear about the homework. Trying to get in contact is very difficult!

AVOID. he is a very smart and respectable man, however, he is not a good professor for an introductory writing course. he is very opinionated and rejects other interpretations. if you can try to find a different professor for UCWR

He doesn't appreciate interpretations other than what follows his own. Grades you harshly for it and honestly he just blabs on and on in circles.

There's no point in attending class or reading or listening or even caring. 3 essays in total about any author from the syllabus. 1 essay is "trial," so your grade is 2 essays and some participation. Avoid him! I love lit before this class, and now he's ruined the subject for me altogether.

Delancey is very helpful with writing and grades based on your progression in the class. He also goes on some pretty awesome/funny tangents that actually trigger thought. Great professor to have for my first year in college.

Really nice and helpful teacher. If you go to his office hours, he helps you basically write your paper for you. I barely read anything for class, and I still am doing fine. TAKE HIM, you wont regret it.

Hands down the worst UCWR professor. Talks in circles and his writing is illegible. He's methods are very intimidating as well. He is a very smart man whose intelligence could be put to better use elsewhere

Dull and mediocre at best. I don't think anyone learns writing by having the professor lecture and scribble all over the board. Comments on papers were useless.

I went from getting A's in AP English classes in a Nationally ranked high school to getting a B- in this class. Anyone who is dazzled by his "intelligence" is merely impressed by the use of big words. He talks in circles and literally comes to class without a clue about what he is talking about. He's a nice man, but he teaches Lit like philosophy.

DeLancey's class was kind of intimidating at first since the writing method he teaches is kind of confusing as he just writes scribbles on the board, but it got easier as the semester went on. Although his class can get pretty boring, he is actually a nice guy and is helpful if needed.

Don't take him, unless you are really good at interrupting relationships between not related things. He wants participation, no one participates, so he just tells you everything about the readings. As long as you come to class when he discusses any two of the books, you are able to write the 2 assigned papers. No other homework.

Take Dr. DeLancey! It is a lot of work because you do have a homework assignment every class, but he is a great man and very helpful when it comes to papers. You have to work for a good grade in the class, but his class is very enjoyable!

Potentially the best professor I've had in my academic career. He's brilliant and very helpful if you show an interest in getting a good grade. I've never looked forward to going to a class more than this one.

He was very intimidating at first but I actually enjoyed it in the end. He grades on improvement which was weird but he cared a lot about his students and was always willing to help. If you see him after class he will basically outline your paper for you and tell you exactly what to do to get an A.

I got an A in his class. That said, this was the most useless class in the history of man. It was a WRITING class, but all the daily homework was reading Greek philosophy or 100 year old speeches. Everything we read he tied into religion according to him. Took one page of notes in 16 weeks because everything on the chalkboard was illegible.
