Mark is a great instructor. He makes his lectures fun and does a great job explaining complicated concepts. The course has a lot of assignments that can quite some time to do, but they are relevant and so you don't feel like you're wasting your time. Interacting with Mark will get more out of the class as he is great at answering questions.

One of the best professors in the comp sci department. One of the few who demonstrably gives two hoots about students getting their money's worth. Approachable, funny, writes his own textbook which he provides to students of the course for free. Show up to lecture, learn lots and have a great time!

Mark did a great job making a difficult topic accessible for his students. He is a great lecturer and is very helpful outside of class. The assignments are difficult, but really help you understand concepts from the lectures. It is crucial to attend the lectures to do well on the exams. Watch out for final exam worth 45% - I was not well prepared.

Mark made CMPT141 a very interesting and approachable class. Those with programming experience won't find his class very difficult, but those with none can still do well with a little extra work. Mark's lectures are very engaging. The textbook is available online for free for the class portal. You must do your homework to succeed in this class.

If you're in computer science take as many classes from this man as possible. He explains the algorithms very clearly and is very down to earth. Extremely patient and always happy to answer any questions. He has a great sense of humour and even showed us a funny video the class after our 215 midterm because he knew we deserved a break.

While assignments could be long and difficult his notes could be easily referenced for the high level conceptual method of solving most problems in the assignments. He would also be in the computer lab at least once a week before the assignment was due ready to answer any questions you may have.

An excellent professor, is very clear in the lectures and marks fairly. The course had a ton of assignments, but they were fairly easy if you were paying attention and doing the readings. Gave out the text book for free to, so that's a bonus. Mark is very approachable, and is open to field questions during and after his lectures.

Mark is an excellent professor, particularly with respect to his lectures. He has very clear expectations and marks fairly. He wrote a free textbook for the course that ties in well with the lectures, tutorials and assignments. There were a lot of assignments, but they really helped students do well in the course. I highly recommend him.

Best professor I've had thus far, the lectures are engaging and he's very approachable. He doesn't just do examples up on the board but you do examples and problems together, and student input (even when incorrect or more advanced than the scope of the class) is discussed and encouraged. Mark is also pretty hilarious, makes the class go by quick!

Prof. Eramian is one of the better profs in a field whose profs tend to either be amazing or horrid. I highly recommend him. He uses humour to hold attention, is clearly passionate about what he teaches, and fantastic to approach for help in the labs. If you can take his class, do yourself a favour, and do so.

Very smart and incredibly well prepared for every lecture. This class goes into an immense amount of detail but Eramian has reasonable expectations for exams and marks benevolently. Assignments are pretty long and challenging but also interesting and satisfying.

Probably the best prof in the dept, if not one of the best on campus. Explains everything very thoroughly, very active on forums and has reasonable expectations. Very critical of markers in that they grade fairly - not just on right vs wrong, but if you actually showed you tried to make an effort at solving it. Can't say a single bad word about him

Teaches data structures in Java and pseudocode, usually the latter. Uses a combination of downloadable Powerpoint slides, the blackboard, and lecturing. His after-class hours are consistent to the times he sets, and willing to stay later (0-20 mins, depending on question and interest). His online forum appearance/answers are also helpful.

Very helpful, clearly interested in the subject matter. Encourages students to participate in class discussion with the intent of improving understanding. Assignments were well-defined and added to the course material, rather than distracting from it. Taking this class from Mark re-sparked my interest in computer science. Great prof!

He really knows his stuff, interesting and very helpful outside of class, assignments are usually fairly long, but the tests seemed easier than the assignments. Only thing that I didn't like was that he tends to be overly formal with definitions and procedures. Overall very good
