DO NOT TAKE. By far THE hardest class I have ever taken. He wrote the book so there is no variation in his explanations. Final paper is impossible. Class has not a lot of grades so if you do poorly it will affect you. He is super boring and no matter how hard you try, this class is too difficult to understand.

Our entire class had to share a google folder and meet after class to comprehend what was happening. Entire class is based off a book the guy wrote himself, meaning any questions you have about it can't be answered by him. Learning about Plato and Aristotle isn't apparently required for this class & yet his class is based on it. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

As long as you show that you care he is willing to work with you to make sure you succeed. I accidentally missed an exam in his class and was going to fail his class because of it--and I am graduating in one week. Dr. Pollock worked with me to ensure that I could pass the class and graduate. He is amazing.

Dr. Pollock is a nice guy, this class just wasn't. The class was small to begin with and every week, half the students skipped because they didn't see a point in coming to class. Lectures were confusing and unplanned, basically just regurgitating the textbook. I did learn a lot from this class, but it would have been better taught by someone else.

It is sad that he teaches at Loyola. He hasn't taught this class in 20 years and it shows. Whenever he gives feedback on your assignments, he himself does not make any ethical clarification on his own reasonings. I am sad that my view on ethics has found its grave with him.

STAY AWAY. Talks in a monotone, IMPOSSIBLE to listen in his lectures, he is a heartless grader, gives you a quiz every week and there are no exceptions- If you miss the quiz you receive a zero. exams are all open ended questions but if your answers doesn't share the same views as he does its wrong.

Such a nice guy but very soft-spoken, which makes it hard to pay attention to his lectures. Definitely plays favorites so if you aren't one don't expect to get anything higher than a C or B on case studies, exams, etc. Overall a very tough grader with too much reading for an intro level class.

Quizzes every week on the readings. They're not too hard and he drops the lowest one so that's nice. The lectures are the most painful thing I've ever sat through, though. Unbelievably long and boring and he speaks somewhat incoherently.

Do not take his classes if you are a Comm major! He is an ethics professor and never once connected any of his lectures to anything having to do with communication. All you do is read books and have quizzes once a week that are hard along with exams and case studies. Really tough grader even though he barely teaches anything. Do not take his class

Pollock is a professor with little real world experience. I find it difficult to merit lectures about social change from an instructor who spent his whole life in academia so can only speak of rhetoric. Arrogant, condescending, boring.

I think Pollock is an awesome professor. He is brilliant and knows so much about communication. He's also a really nice guy. He tries to help you understand the material and goes over everything that will be on the test! TAKE HIM :)

EMAIL HIM-GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS-ANSWER QUESTIONS IN CLASS....he is one of those teachers that grades unfairly, but if he thinks you are putting in some effort he will reward you.

Somewhat interesting class, although he was a very unusual grader on the quizzes...it was one of those classes where you get done taking the quiz, studied your butt off for it, think you aced it...then get it back and receive only a C

He was an awesome teacher. He made sure you understood the material and owuld take as much time it took for you to undderstand it. He reviews before each quiz and tells you exactly what is on it and what you need to know. He wrote our book, so he knows exactly what he is talking about. I would deffinately take him again!

he is a really bad teacher. it seems like it will be easy but the quizzes are too hard. he is too unclear in class to know what he expects on quizzes.

Good teacher but tend to be very unclear in class and goes off on a tangent. Read the book! Don't expect for his quizzes and test to be easy. It might look like they would be, but you really need to understand the concepts in order to do well.

it's a hard class, but it's definitely doable. he's a great teacher who enjoys what he does, but you will have to work hard and think critically. he's very liberal so if you are not and don't have a thick skin, i wouldn't recommend it. there is a lot of writing and you have to go to class

I think people are inclined to have a strong negative reaction against Pollack because we're used to getting easy A's by bsing our way through our courses. I avoided him all throughout college because of the negative reviews he received on this site, but after taking him, but now I'm glad I did. An 'A' is very possible if you do the work.
