Rabbi Shook was an awesome professor. Yes, the info can be a little boring- but you could tell he really enjoyed teaching and talking about the topics. He's super nice if you initiate a conversation with him, easy to talk to. You get 8 absences and he's pretty easy going overall. Easy grader if you try. I would definitely take this again.

Rabbi Shook's class was great, you can have eight absences per semester but the material is so interesting you really can't bring yourself to miss any of it (at least I couldn't). Makes clear what is expected on assignments and is a fair grader.

Rabbi Shook is the best! One of my favorite professors at SLU makes the material interesting. I'm surprised about even one negative comment about one of the best teachers I have ever had

I'm Jewish & a straight A student. I figured I would enjoy his class. Approached him many times with interest in Judiasm(he blew me off). Planned a Seder on campus(he told me it was a stupid idea). Then, he fell asleep when a Holocaust survivor came to speak to our class. This poor excuse for a man makes me ill. I would NEVER take his class again!

I don't know what those people were talking about. He is perhaps the best professor I have ever had. He sincerely cares about what he is talking about and he is a very fair person. Take his class!!

He seems to be a pretty nice guy until the first assignment is turned in. He doesn't really follow the grading rubric and he really plays favorites. Don't question him about the grade he gave you on the first assignment, that will just make him mad. You probably will get an A anyways if you show interest in his disorganized lectures.

Rabbi Shook made class fun at 9:30 in the morning. He is open to questions about the Jewish faith, and makes learning interesting. I would definitely recommend taking his class.

Rabbi Shook is great! His lectures are a little random and disorganized but all you have to do is take a midterm, one final, and a paper (which is an opion paper). The final is even take home. Study the night before the midterm and you will do fine, and you don't need to buy the book. Plus he is a super nice guy and the class is interesting!

Very interesting class, is able to make the material seem fresh and present it in an entertaining way. Jumps around a little bit, but quite a bit of history is being covered so that is to be expected. Daily attendance and good notetaking assure a good grade.

He is sooo disorganized! Everyone's notes had random dates on each page because he just hopped from topic to topic. He voices his political opinions too often, and isn't very welcoming to question. Don't take him

extremely unorganized...lecture is very very boring... he is really defensive and his grading is very arbitrary...he isnt flexible with grades at all.. thinks he knows everything there is to know in the world and preaches more than teaches. Horrible teacher. Dont take this class

ok here it is: interesting subject matter, very. terrible organization though and predicting test material is a complete toss up. you just better know a lot of**** about jewish lit. inflexible teacher, take GOOD notes, that is key, separate the fun facts from the will be on the test stuff; not bad

He is unorganized in lecture and is extremely defensive. A little too arrogant for me and he was unfair in my grading. I think he has a tendency to grade some people harder than others. Maybe if I got on his good side it would be a different story.

I was surprised at how fair and easy his grading is. He doesn't at all expect you to be a jewish expert, unlike other diehard theo profs at this school. He's interesting, funny, and fair, and personally the best buy for a theo or pla class at slu.
