Comment:

Had him for AMH 1010, work consists of weekly discussions and chapter quizzes. As long as you don't slack off and get things in on time, he's fine. He is a bit opinionated on discussions, and fairly bad at responding to emails.

Dr. Smallwood was horrible. I would not recommend him. Tests were extremely difficult with reasonable to not very good amount of time to take them. Discussion boards he graded very tough. Also whenever he responded to emails or discussions for feedback, he never says more than 3 words in his replies. Couldn't understand any of his feedback.

If you were taking his class face to face, Dr. Smallwood would be a great teacher. If you have him as a professor online, make sure you meet him on a regular basis so you may communicate what you need in order to study better. The homework assignments are not bad, he expects details in your assignments, as it should be. Quizzes/exams were tough.

I would reccomend NOT wasting your time, money and energy taking this course with Dr. Smallwood. I took it as an online course, and got A's on my assignments and would then turn around and flunk the exams. What you study every week in the book, is not what the exams cover - most of it is extremely opinionated instead of being based on actual facts.

Comment:

Dr. Smallwood is a very in depth individual who will not accept excuses, but is a fair and easy teacher. This was my first college course, and an overall enjoyable experience. Just be ready to read the chapter, and a quiz every Monday that is extra credit. His tests are open notes, and he usually reviews the entire test in the previous class.

Simple weekly quizzes and essay questions; there are two optional review quizzes per chapter you can take to see what you need to study. Four tests, long and a little intense but not impossible. Everything is open book. Dr. Smallwood doesn't answer emails but made grade corrections twice when I emailed him, so no real complaints there.

Horrible at answering e-mails. Horrible communication skills. Horrible teaching style. Cannot communicate at all. Misinforms you then tells you its your fault. Refused to accommodate my disability like he is supposed to.

Grades discussions and short answer questions easily; if you do it you'll get a 100. He gives four exams that are very hard if you don't read every word in the book. Very slow at responding to emails. Would not recommend him and will not be taking anymore classes with him.

Be prepared to read every single chapter 2x. Take notes, because the tests are a pain, and exams are even harder. If you do not have a desire for history; do not take this class, or you will fail miserably. He grades on a point system of 1000 points overall.

Good, engaging lectures. All exams except the final are online and therefore open-book/open-note. Exams are still difficult even with this luxury, but it's a college course covering a lot of material - it should be hard. Show up to class, take good notes, and read your textbook and you'll be fine.

I took the online course. It is very time consuming and the test are hard because of the amount of material covered, 4 chapters per test and you only have 1 1/2 to complete. A lot of reading. It's possible to get an A but you have to put the time and effort into it.

He is one of the most incomprehensible teachers I have ever had. I can barely understand what he says and his tests often have questions that he never discussed in class or aren't in the book. Unless you're a master stenographer, don't take this class.

Representative of a typical college professor in a good way. Clear, stays on topic, utilizes applicative examples to demonstrate the point he's trying to teach. Doesn't waste time, easy tests. Some people had difficulty paying attention though, you just need to know how to make yourself interested and take notes from a verbal source.

Took this class online, it's so insanely hard. There are 4 exams covering 4 chapters each, so even if you take notes, or read the chapters you will still struggle over the amount of content. Takes forever to respond to emails.

He is an awful teacher. Do not take him on campus or online. He never write you back if you have a question, you read 30 pages a week to take a 10 question quiz. Then every 4 chapters you take a test. This class was awful. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
