Comment:

Professor Kobre has high standards, but she is always willing to help. She truly cares about her students and will do as much as she can to ensure our success. She is almost always available during office hours and will meet at another time if needed. Overall, her course has turned me into an efficient writer, and I highly recommend her to others.

Comment:

She's not a horrible teacher or a horrible person... she's just extremely one sided and open about HER strong opinions, which I don't think is the best for an argumentative writing class. She also doesn't give the best directions. You follow her odd layout and then it's completely wrong.

Comment:

From Marlene's class, I learned to be a more conscientious writer and developed a more refined understanding of structure. Marlene expects her students to submit good work, and as she puts it, she can spot when students submit "BS" and will call them on it. I would recommend Kobre only if you are a strong writer and want to refine your ability.

Very nice and takes an interest in students. Very clear in explaining material and assignments. Not too many assignments overall. A little tough with grading, but if you put in effort you'll be fine.

Comment:

Marlene is a wonderful person, but I was not at all impressed with her teaching. Her standards are very high, yet she neglects to teach many of the things that she penalizes you for. I would love to have coffee with her, but I think I would make her pay, because she has already wasted enough of my money.

From this class I took a wealth of information on forming an argumentitive essay, editing, and style. In class the discussion sometimes got stuck in stale debates, but Kobre made the class personal ... i have never had a personal connection with classmates like i experienced in PA. By the end everyone was very open about eachothers work/ opinions

I LOVE Kobre and her class. This is by far my favorite class. She leads us in amazing discussions, and the topics are exciting. I hated writing before this class, and now I get excited. She is truly amazing.

She is a very unique teacher, but manages to keep laughter alive in the classroom and engage students in discussion and debate. Even if you do not have strong opinions on the environment I recomend the class beacuse you learn alot and its fun, although intimadating at first.

Oh she's good. The course has completely changed my views about nature. You will end up working very hard on her essays, but if you ask for assistance, and she sees that you are trying to improve, you will do just fine. She will ALWAYS be there to help.

Do not take Marlene unless you want to work hard. She relies on structure and stresses the process of writing. As long as you're willing to learn, she's great. Helpful, accessible, very intelligent and kind.
