Took 6609 in spring 2009. Professor Tabacchi evidently did not bother to keep up with current information about airlines. The teaching assistants acted like her devoted servants and all they did was surf the internet in class using their laptops even when we had guest speakers. Grading was inconsistent, all depending on how much they liked you.

Interesting and entertaining class. Enjoyed reading the cases and participating in class discussions. Tabacchi was not very good at explaining anything though - hard to understand most of the time. But just speak up in class and you'll probably get a good grade.

earned an A in this course but the prof is completely unqualified to teach about airlines. No airline experience at all!!! jonathan (main ta) should have taught it. jon carlos (other ta/flight attendant for 7-8 years) has lots of really funny airline stories to tell. if you take the course, talk to jonathan or jon carlos if you need anything!!!

Chaos caused by profound disorganization best described the course. No one except the lead TA appeared to "get" the airline industry. I had never been in a graduate-level class in which sophomores and juniors were allowed to be TAs. The redeeming part was that it was an easy A.

Spas should be relaxing -- sadly Mary IS NOT! Her mood swings are a pain in the back and when she is having a bad day, she makes her students have a bad day as well. If she dislikes you, it won't matter how much effort you put.

I don't think airline management was as negative as the previous poster described it. I had a difficult time at the beginning of the semester given my lack of knowledge about the industry, but the case studies were not difficult to understand. It's true that some TAs were ineffective, not all however. I would recommend HADMN 6609.

Complete waste of time unless you are already an airline expert. The course goes too fast while office hours are limited and most of the staff isn't willing to help out unless you are on their good side. Weekly readings were manageable.

This airlines class rocks. Lovedddddddd the discussions. Incredible guest speakers. You basically learn that American, Delta, and Northwest suck in comparison to Singapore Airways, haha. Seriously, by paying attention, you can actually learn how to avoid getting in trouble with US airlines. Useful stuff.

Someone must have gotten a low score. Just because a certain TA knows tons of stuff on different airplanes and cabins doesn't mean he doesn't "get" the airline industry; the same way that just because the third TA is not as approachable, it doesn't make him "mean." They are hard graders, though. Fortunately, the prof is hilarious and pretty chill.

Not sure this class is representative of the airline industry in general because of strong biases and bad case studies. Sure, some TA's are better, but that happens in every class. The main issue is how repetitive the context has become (as someone else said), it seems that all we talk about is American Airlines, and at times a few other airlines.

Entertaining lectures/guest speakers. While, Tabacchi and some TAs are plain weird, pretending to care about students yet only one friendly graduate TA will actually take the time to respond ur emails and sit down with u to review ur project. When it comes to grading, Tabacchi is secretive, even said we can't ask her TAs for our grades. Bad!!!!!!!

I have mixed feelings--syllabus has gotten changed alot. For the final project, they expect you to be an airline freak and submit an outline on something you are not even sure about. The professor is good in class, but don?t expect any help from her. Two TAs live in a fame bubble & the other one is nice, but too shy at times. not my fav elective

The best and most interesting class I have taken at Cornell. The professor is knowledgeable and always willing to help. Also, the TAs (except one who is kinda mean) are extremely passionate about airlines. They have all been very flexible. Take it if you can.
