THE BEST TEACHER EVER. Makes lectures fun and interactive, while also making sure everyone understands the material. It is really clear he knows what he is talking about and is interested. The tests are all on readings, so you have to make sure to keep up, but he does a great job of discussion and review on all material.

Comment:

I wasn't expecting an intro level religion class to be challenging, but it definitely was. His expectations were high but not unreasonable. Convinced me to add religion as a 2nd major. He's super funny, you definitely learn a lot, and his lectures are really interesting. However, if you're looking for an easy A this isn't the class for you.

He always encourages questions to deepen understanding of the material, and he attempts to give an order to hands that are raised, though he allows students to blurt out comments/questions and this can be very frustrating. His deadpan humor makes the lectures very entertaining! Lots of reading, and he DOES take attendance but it's on you to come

What a breath of fresh air!! My favorite class I've taken at UMW. Wish he taught more classes in my major. He's hilarious! Totally understanding, but don't b.s. him. Class was always 70/30 discussion over lecture, which I find more effective than having info shoved down your throat for 50 minutes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Neurotheology is a LOT of lecturing, but it is open for free discussion of various topics. Only 2 tests and one big paper, but other than that it was a very easy class. It was highly informative and I learned a lot!

Aminrazavi is great if you can keep on track! He's INCREDIBLY intelligent and love what he does, but he is very spacey and needs to be reminded of assignments and exams. His grading is totally arbitrary, which is a little frustrating, but he's a great person to just talk to.

Great guy, knows a lot. The classes are in lecture format, which some people do not like. Personally I loved it and learned a lot, HOWEVER his tests are insane. He tests you on book knowledge he will never go over in class, the multiple choice are impossible. I know the material, but the tests make it seem like I am clueless. BEWARE OF THE TESTS.

This guy was incredible. Remarkable amount of knowledge this guy walks around with, and is willing to share. Not quite sure what these other two responses below are about. This class was very clear and Aminrazavi was always more than willing to clarify details. He pushes his students to think and to engage in discussion. Great professor, must take.

neurotheology was GREAT, and aminrazavi is hilarious. I could listen to him talk forever. sometimes the class got repetitive and the tests weren't easy, but the class was really interesting. people who are very religious might be a little offended by his jokes. for an entire class we talked about tripping on drugs and the similarities to the subject material we were reading and he participated in the conversation and seemed genuinely interested hahaha

He is very nice, sweet, and intelligent. His Islam class is very easy as long as you read the book and take good notes. For the test, you dont even need to read the book, just be sure to take good notes. He is also very helpful outside of class - he is one of the best professors we have at UMW. TAKE HIM and YOU WILL LOVE HIM :)
