I had Keranen for Calc II. It's clear that knows her stuff and she explains it clearly and in a way that can make sense to all students, making sure she gives plenty of examples and explains the reasoning behind each. She cares about her students and genuinely wants to help us succeed. If you get the chance to have Keranen as a teacher, take it.

Melissa is an excellent professor but the class is not easy. Actually plan on doing the homework and understanding it, otherwise you will struggle big time on the exams and quizzes. I didn't use the book for Calc 1, but buy the book anyways because you will need it for Calc 2 and Calc 3.

I remember her being extremely helpful and really concerned about every students progress. We'd do in-class problems and she would walk through the room and look over students shoulders to make sure they were doing well and understanding the material. Really tries to make the concepts simpleeasy.

Took the class as a CS major that hates math. Unless you're good at math (proofs, etc) prepare for a lot of work. Lectures can be dull as it is mostly just copying notes onto the blackboard. A difficult class but between office hours and the learning center definitely doable for someone that looks at the notes and sees gibberish half the time.

Lectures are more or less cut from the book but still not always clear. Explains topics in one way unless asked further in class. Chapter tests and take home worksheets are given and can be rough if you haven't taken calculus before this class. Extra work outside of class is fairly necessary for a good grade.

She's a very kind teacher who does care about the students a lot. All her notes in class are hand-written on the blackboard. Read the book carefully if you want to get a good grade in exams. She may give some curve in the end of the smemster(i.e. replace your mid-term exam grade with the final's if it is higher)
