Michael Anderson is a tough professor. I would never take a class with him again. He just assumes you understand the material. He does not have an online page with notes and only hand-writes notes on the projector. His handwriting is very hard to read and his exams are extremely hard. He curves almost everything but even so, his exams are hard.

Comment:

Anderson is a genius and an amazing professor. He wants you to succeed and is fair, helpful, and passionate about the subject. You must attend class, put in effort, and take good notes. Totally worth it. Appreciated both courses I took with him.

In order to pass this class you need to be passionate about Finance. This class is lecture heavy and he does not directly teach from the textbook. He teaches you conceptual theory in class. On the exam he may ask problems that require reverse engineering, which should be no problem if you understand the concept. Huge curves on tests. You must Study

He is literally one of the best professors at Umass. If you want to learn finance take him. He is passionate, extremely knowledgable , and fair. As long as you go to class, take good notes, and study a decent amount for exams you will be fine. You get your moneys worth by taking one of his classes.

I chose professor Anderson because he was the only professor to speak English. This class was so tough and in the end I had to stop by his office for extra help. The study guides were extremely helpful but the exams were still tough. Lectures were long and he doesn't use PowerPoint so you have to try to read his terrible handwriting. Smart guy

I have him now for Financial Institutions. He was the only professor teaching the course at a time I could make. Pros:This guy is really smart, loves finance, and is the only professor that I've had so far that is American. That's it really. Horrible Professor. Exam material does not match class lectures and homework assignments. Suggested Problems in the book are nothing like the questions he asks on the exam. He told us to buy the Study Guide because he said it was useful, but it really isn't and the explanations are not helpful at all. Waste of 50 dollars.

Not a good professor, what he talks about in class has next to no relevance to the material on the tests and homework. He just goes on and on, about nothing of substance. If he taught the class, and not relied on the textbook to the do the teaching, he would be an ok professor, but he doesn't that is why he is so bad.

Anderson is the man, plain and simple. He makes boring finance topics interesting with his teaching methods. Holds class long sometimes but he always keeps you on your toes. Very smart guy.

Funny and nice guy, but his class is very difficult. 3 exams, but he scales a little bit. No attendance, but be sure to come to class and write everything down b/c it's different than the text. I've had Anderson for 3 courses, I can respect how he genuinely has a liking for finance, along with the fact that he comes up with the material as he goes, and does not read off of slides... His exams are tough but w/ good preparation ur fine, it is all graded relative, so beat ur classmates
