He cares so much about the material he teaches, and is so knowledgeable. He's also the only person to make me love sonnets. His tests are clear and you can do well on them if you show up and study but I do agree with others that his papers are pretty hard. If you don't actually care about learning stuff, don't take it, but he's great

I had Prof Friedman 25 years ago for quite a few different courses. I have been an English teacher for 20 years, and not a day goes by that I don't in some way think of him: of his energy, focus, enthusiasm, knowledge. He was absolutely inspiring. You are fortunate to learn from him!

I have to disagree with everyone who gave Dr. Friedman a poor rating. Frankly, as long as you're willing to do the readings and focus on the (very short) papers, you should have NO problem. He is engaging, enthusiastic, and genuinely cares about all of his students. He's the best professor I've had in my 3 1/2 years at the U.

I enjoyed my classmates, and he was very good at producing great discussion, however his instructions on papers was poor and the whole grading system seemed very flawed. I do not like being graded on how much I can get my fellow man to speak. It isn't my job to make them participate it is his.

AWESOME! He truly loves the material he teaches. Very exciting and upbeat. brings a lot of energy into the classroom. he's tough with essays, but not impossible. he simply wants the best. i'd recommend him if you want a great teacher. don't take his class if you don't expect to do work. if you read and do the work, you'll do fine.

Very difficult but very good. he tries to make his students better an I got a lot out of the class. If you don't want to do work then dont take it. Grading system is a little bit unfair though. Overall he is a high quality professor

This man needs to take his head out of the iPod and enter reality. These professors think they can bumble around in their own little worlds without concern for others. Wake up and smell the coffee bud.

He genuinely loves drama; but he's genuinely insane and simply has a terrible system. After asking for paper help several times, & following his instructions, I still got a C+ on nearly each, and I'm a published author... Don't take him to fill an elective.

I took this class just to fill in an elective, which i think about 95% of the class did. I did more work for this class than any other class I had that semester and I was taking Psyc. at the time. Yes, you do have to write papers for each class, and he is very critical about how you write them. You have to write papers his way or you won't do good.

He is the worst professor I have ever taken here. Rude and boring. There is a paper due every class. Do not take this class as an elective or something fun and interesting. Paper topics are SO out there and he grades really hard.

If you have any interest whatsoever in Shakespeare, Dr. Friedman is the person to teach you. Unless you're a slacker - he is a very difficult grader and you will write many papers for him. He really invests himself into his students and will expect you to reciprocate, and in the process you will learn so much about Shakespeare and other literature.

Professor Friedman is BY FAR the worst teacher I've had at this university thus far. He singlehandedly kept me off of the Dean's list with his asinine "Creative Teaching" approach, which pits students with the impossible job of trying to guess what the professor wants-except you'll NEVER BE RIGHT. EVER. Friedman is anal about everything. Avoid him.

If you are an average to poor student with no exposure to Shakespeare or other Renaissance Lit., take this class! You will do better, and work harder, than anything else you've taken. Good students will suffer. Instructor can't locate a context-related thesis printed in forty foot high block letters on the broad side of a barn.

The fact that he has to make his exams so difficult and irrelevant to the subject matter shows his own insecurity as a professor. I'd say he has more of an inferiority complex. Good professors would have no problems seeing students do well. Don't take him

Didn't like him at all. Superiority complex. The whole "my way or the highway" got to be corny after a while. Hard man to relate to on a friendly basis. Grading was okay - very fair, but I wouldn't take him unless I had to.
