Comment:
Professor Gaynes is honestly my favorite professor here, and I'm a Pre-Med student. The art projects he assigns are made for you to think beyond the box and individualistically. After finishing, we have formal or informal discussions on everyone's piece and it's so inspiring to be a part of it. I really do wish I could take more of his classes!

I took his ART 100 and ART 225 classes. Therefore, I had to see him for a total of 12 hours per week. Even though that may sound like a lot of time to spend in a class, the material we learned about never grew dull. He is the best professor I have had at William and Mary so far. If you are ever able to take his class, do not hesitate to do so!

The best class I've taken in college, 10/10 recommend!! We did a lot of fun stuff and learned a lot during the course. The professor and classmates keep inspiring me and I definitely learned more than what we physically made. Also you don't need to a skilled artist to take this course.

This class was super fun. He gives you a lot of freedom and good critique. You don't have to be a skilled artist to do well in this class. I would suggest going to class, because deadlines can sneak up on you if you don't. Overall, he's an awesome professor and a really nice guy who just wants you to get the most out of the class

Michael is a fantastic professor. He has really interesting ideas and is very laid back about how you approach assignments. As such, if you like structure, this class may not be your favorite. He wanted to let us guide our learning. I learned a lot of cool skills and he devoted a lot of time to helping me make my final project ideas a reality.

He's not really as easy as everyone seems to think he is. That said, if you give it your all, you should be OK. Just make sure that you ask for suggestions while you're going along so that you can work on any weaknesses he sees in the piece before you submit it. It was kind of stressful, but overall worthwhile.

212 is a really fun class, and he kind of lets you do your own thing which is nice, but is ready to help instantly if you ask. Very helpful comments in critique, and just an all around nice professor.

I LOVED Michael's class. Unlike other art professors here, he gives you ultimate freedom. Very encouraging in critiques. But also has a lot of useful stuff to say. Awesome in class, but somehow hard to approach on an individual basis.

Professor Gaynes is by far the kindest professor I've ever had. He is involved, and expects a lot from his students. However he is often hard to find during class, and is often unclear on what is expected.

Very nice guy. Easy grader for the most part; and immensely helpful when he critiques your artwork. Definitely allows you the most freedom on all the projects you will do in class -- puts very little restrictions on your ideas.
