worst proffesor at ONU. wants you to read 15 books and gives you powerpoints with 500 slides for the tests. tests cover random details that he has never discussed in class. hard quizzes and exams. rants about his own liberal political views. recommend transferring schools or moving countries before ever taking one of his classes again.

Dr. Loughlin is a very smart man and will help you a lot if you go to seek extra help from him and attend the tutoring sessions. The quizzes and exams are impossible and the lectures in class barely relate to what is tested on, and he is very vague on explaining what he wants in the essays. Very nice guy, but avoid him for this class if possible!

Makes one power point for the entire year that consist of 215 slides and the beginning of the class consists of him flipping through slides trying to find where he left off. Also he runs class overtime everyday.

I despise everything about his teaching methods. He thinks he has to indoctrinate every student into this far leftist thinking, and it's ridiculous. He thinks every student that walks in the door is a republican that needs to be transformed from their parents thinking. and that's just not what education is supposed to be.

The worst class I have ever taken at ONU. He rambles on and on about things that will never show up on his tests and quizzes. The questions on tests are about the most obscure things that he has never covered in class. Sends out 30 pg long emails about tests the night before. Tests are pretty much impossible. Do not take his class, ever.

What is this, the only class I'm taking in my college career? No, and this professor needs to figure that out! Most of us don't give a crap and are only taking this class because we HAVE to not because we want to! Therefore he should make it at a level that we can at least force ourselves to care about, not a graduate 800 level class! Ridiculous!!

Loughlin is not a bad teacher when it comes to homework. He really only gives test and quizzes as his grades. His test are very detailed and he really does expect you to know as much about the topis as he does. If you can avoid him do it. If not do as much extra credit as possible and go to the tutoring sessions. You will have to study hard!

A lot of people have trouble with Loughlin. The hard part about his class is all the information you have to know for the tests. Not only do you need to read the textbook, but he sends 15 page long e-mails and gives you extra books to read. It's a lot of work but a very interesting class if you like history.

The most annoying thing about the class was the people that didn't even give him a chance. He is a really nice guy, and despite what some people say, he doesn't want anyone to fail. He goes into detail, so you learn a lot. That being said, his class is very difficult. He teaches a 100 level class as if it very a 500 level graduate class.

I love history, but this man cannot teach the subject! He tests on obscure details, and does not teach history! He goes on and on about his own personal views and his own life story during class! Bring a pillow and something to entertain yourself with! Take Western Civ with Crawford instead!

His lectures are really interesting, but the test/exams are HORRIBLE! If you have test anxiety or just aren't a strong test taker, RUN LIKE HELL! he pulls out the smallest details for those tests, most of which he didn't even cover. Hes a nice person, and tries to be helpful, its just those tests! Ah!

he is a very good lecturer and keeps the subject going without help. if you have a passion for history and are very knowledgeble take it... but his tests are soooooooooo hard and pretty much impossible, i guessed most of the time and i felt like i studied. and im a pharmacy major and felt like i spent to much time studying for his test

The class was fun, made you think...But as to the tests...terrible, you never knew what was going to be on them, and half the time it was stuff that he didnt even cover. He was so particular about details that he never goes over. you HAVE to read the notes and the book and go to tutoring...And dont ask him how your grade is figured...its a mystery

All in all, the class wasn't that difficult. But he is really hard to follow (especially if you have an early a.m class) and the tests are so random...it's ridiculous. By far one of my least favorite classes I've taken....stay as far away as possible from this class!

Read and study all you want, his tests and essays are on nit picky details that he does not even talk about in class. He assumes everyone knows as much about history as he does. The material he does cover in class is interesting, but your hardly tested over it, which makes going to class pointless. Also, it is a mystery as to how he figures out your grade, and I'm sure asking him how he does it is just as useless.

His classes would be appreciated by History majors, but not those taking it as a general requirement. He lectures by Powerpoint, but they are somewhat disorganized. He also sends out long e-mails (10 pages printed) that are required reading in addition to the textbook. He does offer bonus opportunities, but they don't completely compensate for the
