Not a bad teacher, he could be mean to those who don't read but if he thinks you read the books he's not that bad at all (i didn't read a single book). discussions are mandatory but the actual course itself is very easy and don't need to go to any lectures. only had a mid term and a final so its a bit nerve wrecking at first but they are easy

Online summer school class is supposed to be accelerated, but he does not help students much at all. He is not open or welcoming to questions about the syllabus, course, or content as it appears to annoy him. He's a smart professor, but very difficult to learn when he assigns reading full books each week and does not teach. Would not recommend.

good professor, only problem is there are only three grades: midterm, final, and participation. and he does not make slides or give out notes, his lectures are strictly what he talks about in class and does not really explain what will be on the exam and what will not. he knows what he is talking about but be prepared to read and answer questions!!

Great professor. He knows his stuff and likes to joke around once in a while. I enjoyed taking this class.

One class is a discussion, the other class is a lecture. He often calls on students who don't raise their hands, so you MUST read and be prepared to talk about the material if you want to pass. Only three grades: midterm, final, participation, but he does give out extra credit, and that saved my grade. Pay attention and take good notes.

The only grades in the class are participation, midterm, and final. Midterm and final are both online and based off the lectures so take good notes. One day he lectures and one day is discussion of the books. You MUST read and MUST participate because he marks down who speaks. He's a little rude and cocky, so beware. Not the best professor.

Although it takes time a little time to adjust to his teaching style, he is by far the best history professor I have ever had. He assigns a lot of reading, but its college and as long as you make an effort, he will notice. The grade is made up of a midterm and a final, both are online and based solely on his lectures. Participate and he will like u

Be sure to show up to class and do the readings, and you should be fine. Very knowledgable about what he teaches and is not afraid to call you out if you make things up while talking. One of the funnies profs I've ever taken.

I graduated in 2005 with a BA in History and a Minor in Secondary Ed. I kept all of my books from his Rise/Fall of the Soviet Union course because they are INCREDIBLY well curated and informative. I also kept my notebook for this course. This is the one of the best courses/professors I have had!

Worst professor I have taken at Loyola. He assigns more reading than any class I have ever taken and the books are dull and hard to comprehend. The whole class consisted of reading and writing. He gives a sentence of feedback on all papers, not beneficial at all. All I learned is I hate history.

2 exams; midterm and final which are emailed to you so you can use your notes. NEED TO TAKE NOTES to get a good grade on the exams. LOTS of reading to do every week, if you don't read he will make you look like an idiot and make you write an essay. But otherwise kinda like him as a professor, he's very knowledgable about what he is talking about.

I absolutely loved this class! Prof. Khodarkovsky is absolutely brilliant but isn't afraid to crack a funny joke every once in a while! You definitely need to read in his class but if you do, and participate/take notes- he'll love you. However, beware of making things up just to talk- he's not afraid to call you out on it. Highly recommend!! :)

He is scary smart about his subject matter (he has lived Russian history after all). The class is easy if you put in the work (there was only one paper and two tests), but he expects you to read the books and participate. He's harsh with students that don't meet his expectations, but he really just wants us to learn more about Russian history.

For the class he assigned about 6 books. They were easy reads, can get by with skimming/sparknotes. Show up to class, participate at least once a week, and take good notes and you'll have an easy grade. Midterm and finals were online via email. Funny and brilliant guy and I hope to take him again for his Russian Hist. class!

Dr. Khodarkovsky, as others have said, can be rude. But, if you participate and take the class seriously, he won't pick on you. Read, come prepared, and TALK. He's a pretty good lecturer, but the lectures are long and sometimes dry. I wouldn't take him again, but if you want bluntly honest appraisal of your work, he will do it.

Very unique professor. Overall I would not say that I like him, however, if you participate in class and talk to him then he will like you. Weekly readings of about 80pgs. Quite rude to students and does not think anything of it. Imagine Dr. House without the humor. I would not take him again.

Rude to students, arrogant, makes you read his own books. Picks on students he doesn't like. Not a hard class though, and books aren't too bad. Show up to class, you'll be fine. Don't and you're screwed. That's it.
