Probably best Professor I have ever had. The class is tough, because he is such a good teacher, and he gets really in depth with the material. His classes will teach you a lot, do not take if you want an easy A. However, an A is definitely possible. Highly recommend.

If you want an easy A then avoid at all costs. Unless you like a couple hundred pages of reading every week and have no issue writing a 15 page midterm paper during break. (after a midterm test) Otherwise, it's a great class that you can learn a lot from. Plus he knows a lot about the law school admission process.

Professor Heuman is one of the best professors I have ever had and I can honestly say I learned a lot in his class. There is a lot of reading, but if you pay attention in class and complete all the reading there is no reason you will not get an A. He is a really nice guy who you can tell genuinely cares about the subject he teaches and his students

one of the hardest classes i ever took for poli sci, there's only a midterm, paper, and final exam. he doesn't tell you what will be on the exams just that you need to know all of it and do all the readings. funny guy but one of the worst professor's i've had. just took the final and probably failed :(

Worst advice I have ever gotten. went to him for pre-law advising, tried to shove a Kaplan course down my throat (i assume he gets commission cuz he said to use his name). Kaplan did NOT help so then i studied powerscore myself and raised score 13 points. Got into a good law school with scholarship. DONT listen to someone handing out generic advice

Though Professor Heumann's class makes you put in work, you will learn more than in anything other class here. If you just take the time to actually talk to him, he will help you in any way possible (including LSAT tutoring!). Most caring and driven professor I've ever met.

Huemman is arguably the worst professor I have encountered in the polisci department. I can guarantee that the people who praise him happened to also be one of his favorites because, unless he likes you, he will not show you even an ounce of decency. He assigns so many readings there is not enough time in the day to complete them. DO NOT take him.

Prof. Heumann is one of the best political science professors at Rutgers University. He doesnt hand out As, you earn them. There is probably over a 1000 pages of reading in this class, but as long as you do it and know the main ideas and themes, you should be okay.

Dr. Heumann is my favorite professor. I've taken a few classes with him, and although none were easy, all were worth taking. I've learned more from Dr. Heumann-and his books-than I have in all of my other PoliSci classes combined. His classes are not for dumb people, and even smart kids will need to spend at least 2 hours a week read/reviewing

Lectures are all over the place and he assumes you have background knowledge of Poli Sci material even though the course has no prereqs. Otherwise a funny and passionate person. Do not expect an easy class. The tests are brutal and the paper is too.

As an instructor, he can be very scatter brained and go off on tangents. He can be very frustrating as well it takes time for him to remember names and he can come off as pompous and a bit arrogant. However, he does care about students doing well and makes the effort to help. Therefore, you must do the readings and take notes in class.

All around great professor: effusive, understanding , caring, and engaged. Loved and respected by those truly dedicated to studies in Law and PoliSci. Assigned readings can be excessive, and lectures can go off on tangents. This will be the most difficult class you will take, and you will enjoy every moment; I know I did.

He writes down NOTHING and talks fast. You better do the reading and try your best to keep up. His lectures are interesting because he's very charismatic but it's hard to get clear answers because he goes off on tangents

I did not receive a good grade in this course, for my standards, but this professor does not GIVE grades. You EARN them. The hardest course I have taken in 5 years of college. Great human being, and his toughness will teach you lessons to take with you the rest of your life. He's a brilliant guy.

Readings were great. However, in reviewing the current syllabus, there is nothing more current than 2009 and much of the case law and texts are from the 1980s and 1990s. None of the literature seems to cover more modern methods of policing such as use of canine teams, tasers, new interrogation techniques and community policing.

Best professor I've had at Rutgers. Very knowledgable and passionate about the subject. So helpful BUT you MUST read what is assigned. It's a lot of reading but in retrospect, the class is not that hard. you need to go to lecture because he basically summarizes the readings for you

In your face socratic method kind of professor. He is very passionate about the subject and you will truly learn a lot if you care to. But you MUST do the readings to do well. Midterm, Final, and 'fun' 12-15 page paper.

Cares about students, but no mercy for BS-ers dumb/lazy people. This is a challenging class, but for those interested in it it will be very rewarding. One needs to get over what seems like arrogance and realize it is rather brilliance. Hard, fair, very willing to help students.
