Comment:
It was hard to understand Dr. Hur at first but you get use to it eventually. There are bi-weekly summaries worth a lot of your grade but marked by TA and he doesn't have a clear marking rubric and there are limited people who can get an A. He invited 8 guest lectures, all from prestigious universities. He doesn't put up any slides. Reading heavy.

He's got a father vibe somehow. lol Seems like a nice guy but he speaks quietly, sometimes unclear due to his accent. Lectures are boring, slides are not provided but there's no final. Reading summary every week, 1 midterm & 1 final paper. Acceptable workload, not really a challenging course but I wouldn't say its a GPA booster too.

Lectures are extremely dry and boring, though very knowledgable of what he is teaching. Very helpful during office hours. Final paper was meh.

Unclear criteria in marking, and exam questions can be irrelevant. Almost impossible to get top marks. The guy is smart but he can't really teach.

Very kind, approachable prof. I agree, his accent is thick and may take some getting used to, but he's very knowledgeable. Format: Midterm (essay Qs), final (essay Qs), final paper & presentation. Gives 5 bonus points for perfect attendance. Deducts 1 point from the 5 for each missed class. I found him to be a generous marker. Would take him again.

Dr. Hur is an intellect, a scholar. To succeed in his class, you have to think, act, and be a scholar. If you are taking his class to just get a credit, DON't. You will be wasting his and your time. I have learned so much from Dr. Hur. I took all of his undergraduate courses. He is intelligent, kind, and philosophical.

Hur gives marks for attendance - this is necessary to get students to attend his dull and uninformative lectures. Relies heavily on textbooks (75-200 pages/week) and student presentations (1/class). Fairly generous marker; research paper instead of final. But take note: lectures are PAINFUL. Would not recommend this course - just buy the textbooks.

Nam-lin is a guy with a big heart. When he's passionate and "on" he is quite stimulating. Sometimes he tends to repeat the readings. He's VERY concerned about attendance; if you don't show up to classes you won't succeed in his course. The assignments involved a lot of (sometimes dry) reading and weekly four-page essays. I enjoyed his course.

Got a good grade, but wanted to poke my own eye out every Tuesday from boredom. Attendance not mandatory, but has 1000+ word assignments due every class, so you kinda have to go. Expectations were EXTREMELY unclear...

Very nice man, tries best to help but has an EXTREMELY thick accent which can be tough. He knows his stuff but he just repeated what was in the readings. WEEKLY 4pg reports were worth %60 of grade but 200+ page readings made it diff to concentrate on other courses. Less reading would have allowed me to read more indepth and understand better. Fair.

Excellent lecturer. Be prepared to write very fast and take plenty of notes. Do all readings. If you can keep up with the workload, you will do well. Somewhat vague on exam requirements, but a fair marker.

Avoid him. Course load is too heavy. He should have considered that students normally take more than four courses and reduced the course load. Have painful experiences in taking this course.

Very interesting reading material ($100 photocopies!), but "Princeton Quality Lectures" these were definitely not. VERY dry and boring. Expected us to come 15 min. early for tests, despite the fact that some people have earlier classes. Not impressed.

This class was really great. I learned a lot from professor Hur, he is a reasonable marker, but expect to do a lot of reading for this class. Assignments were not too hard, lectures were interesting too.

Comment:
This teacher is psychotic. The breakdown of assignments this term, one oral presentation, one 5 page annotated Bibliography with term paper proposal, one 15 page term paper, and a final. This teacher is psychotic.
