she's not the most objective grader. she teaches to a very specific kind of student. there are many other english professors at GU who are more mature and fair than fowler.

Love professor Fowler, probably one of my favorite teachers at GU. Her grading criteria is very clear, participation is important and you have to do a small reading for every class. Assignments were minimal, 2 papers and 2 tests! Thought provoking class, loved it.

Her class is mostly discussion based, but she makes it interesting! She doesn't give pop quizzes if students participate in discussions and she can tell that the material had been widely read. Her essays aren't terrible and she's a very fair grader.

Her first vocab test at the beginning of the year is killer. Other than that if you study and go to class you really don't have to do the reading because she covers everything you need to know for tests in class.

Love love LOVE her class. In class is mostly just discussion, which is the best part and always super interesting! You can usually get away with not reading for those periods, but you definitely have to read thoroughly in order to do well on her tests. It's a lot of reading but overall scintillating classes! Essays are a pain though.

Second class I have taken with Dr. Fowler and I love her class structure and poise among her students. No denying how much she genuinely cares about everyone in her classes. Tests are straightforward and essays (regardless of length) are easy if you do the readings on time, NOT when you begin writing the papers.

Dr. Fowler tinged the majority of class discussion with her zealous feminism. If you don't cater to her viewpoints, she will grade you down. Either submit to her whims or expect to suffer. Better yet, don't take a class from her.

Attendace=MANDATORY, but otherwise it's just doing the reading and participating in discussions. You've got some smaller assignments due whenever you want to turn them in and one (or two) precis. There's a seminar paper too. She is willing to help a much as you want her to. Third class I've taken from her, which speaks for itself, I think.

She grades your essays wether she likes you or not. Try to get on her good side, she loves to play favorites. Little to no help when revising your essay.

She may seem intimidating, but actually is very nice. Extremely feminist. Grades reasonably (for the English department) and helps when you need it.

Dr. Fowler sparked an interest in literature for me. She really got the class into what they were reading and gave everyone a chance to voice their thoughts on the literary work being analyzed. She really makes everyone think about they are reading and connect with it. She only assigns two essays per semester. She is a great professor; take her!

Dr. Fowler has high expectations. Essays start with a C, you then build your grade up from there. Looks for a "so what?" factor to each essay. See her during office hours for guidance on essays. Takes attendance religiously. Teaches from a feminist viewpoint, so if you don't like that avoid her class. Overall I highly recommend for English.

I had her for Studies in Drama. The plays selected were really interesting and worth while. Only homework is reading with a midterm and a vocab test before the end of the semester. The problem is she completely backloaded the course, making the end of the year really stressful. Shes pretty cool, but a little intimidating. Very high expectations.

Dr. Fowler is a great professor. I had her for Love, Passion, and Obsession (ENGL 105) and it was great. Her expectations were elevated but not unreasonable. She is fair when it comes to grading and leaves helpful comments on essays (I definitely left her class with stronger writing skills). A very interesting woman, she is absolutely worth taking!

She may not want to hear your opinion in your essay, so just use hers!! not that bad, if you show interest in getting a good grade (i.e. talk in class and go see her during her office hours) thenb you are fine. Thats really the key to her class...GO SEE HER. If you do then your essays will be easy

Dr. Fowler is a great teacher. She is definitely tough, and if you aren't big on English you will be challenged in her class. If someone tries to tell you that she is feminist and hates on guys then they are probably just bitter. She is challenging, not biased. She wants her students to do well, and she really knows her stuff. I recommend her.

Though she is very knowledgeable & I found most of the discussions very interesting she is just a nice lady. She gives dirty looks quite often to those she doesnt like. So if u have to take her class make sure u make a good impression on the FIRST DAY and don't let up at all. And if you start feeling like she hates you sorry but she probably does

Although you have to take an english course, you do not have to take Fowler, and don't if at all possible. She plays favorites and your grade will reflect it. Plus, she doesn't like to have any fun. Ever. Her class is always boring and a waste of time. Find any alternative possible instead of signing into her any of her courses.
