This prof is awful. He spent most classes making us do creative writing assignments when he should have been lecturing on the class materials. It really seems as though he doesn't know anything and doesn't have anything to say. Never once did he stimulate a class discussion or provide us with a clear lecture. To top it off, he's a hard marker.

I'd venture that Prof. Neilson's problem is that he's much more interested in practical theatre than in teaching about it. His lectures are generally unfocused and tangential, but overall he is a kind and very knowledgeable man.

I took his intro theatre class first year and vowed never to take another of his classes -- BUT, then I needed a Canadian Component and took his Canadian Drama course, and he's like a whold different guy. Knows his stuff, really good at keeping class discussion going, super nice, cares a lot about the material, and shock of shocks -- engaging!

The most boring class of my life. If you really love theatre that you don't care who tecahes it or if you are serious about taking your life then take this course. Other than those two conditions, I suggest another course.

I would say he's more obsessed with the OC. My problem with his class is that I don't have a TV, so I can't follow his contemporary references. Oh, and he's incompetant. But seems VERY nice, and at times errupts with a wealth of knowledge. Class feels more like an independent research course than a lecture course. Too bad attendance counts.

He's not very helpful unless you go and talk to him (and even then he's only semi-helpful). Too bad he teaches this prereq. Too bad there aren't very many theatre profs to choose from. Despite Pat's crappy lecture skills, however, the McGill theatre program is not too bad. Just steer clear of Pat.
