I took several of his classes in the late 70's. Sorry he is retired, but happy that my son got to learn from him first. Perhaps the most incredible intellect I've encountered face-to-face, yet modest with a great sense of humor. Sublime philosophical concepts seemed to affect him in the same manner as beautiful music does other people.

Patrick is the single greatest professor I have ever had. Not only do I attributed my knowledge and understanding of philosophy, politics, religion, etc. to Patrick, but also for helping get into graduate school. I hope that he knows how much he is appreciated by the student body and the last remaining value of Madison’s Political Science departm

Easily one of the best profs I have ever had. This man is a genius, and I came to love his lectures. Don't be dismayed if at first you feel as though you are in over your head, as lecture definitely takes some getting used to (he uses few outlines). However, he is a very genuine person and will assist anyone looking for help...great man!

Amazing professor. One of my top 5 favorites in my four years at Madison. Absolute genious, makes philosophy very interesting. Recommend the class to anyone. Don't need to go to lecture to do well but I wouldn't miss one. It's far too interesting. Great guy!

Brilliant lectures, but can be tough to follow. Cares about students-his philosophy of education seems to be that you get what you want to out of the class. LOTS of reading, but you can focus on 2-3 authors if need be. I love him and his classes (I took everything that he offered here.
