Dr. Loomis is a nice guy, but an awful professor. I would highly suggest NOT taking him for an Intro course if you have no previous knowledge of the subject. He teaches as if everyone already has a basic understanding of key concepts, even in an introductory class. He was also very unapproachable and unwilling to help during his office hours.

It seems like no one in the class understood what was going on. Most topics were confusing, and everyone I have spoken to agreed. Also, his projects are confusing and inconvenient timing wise. His explanations on the rubrics were hard to follow, and one of his projects was due during finals week! I wish it would have been done the week before.

Unless you have a good knowledge of math, in this case statistics, prior to taking this intro (to statistics) course. You probably wont do well. Even if you are an amazing student elsewhere and math just isnt your number one class, avoid it at all costs to avoid derailing your GPA. Loomis is a nice guy, but I learned very little.

Was stuck in a situation where I could not go to class for a week and Loomis did not even bother to tell me the homework when I emailed him. When I got back he would not even explain to me anything. And if he did, it was horrible. A terrible explainer. If you're bad at math, don't take this class. Choose another prof.

Very clear in lecture, learned a lot but the exams and quizzes are hard so study hard. Gives homework nightly graded for completeness not correctiveness. Tutor visits help but best way to get help is to just go to office hours, he is very nice and helpful just a hard grader.

I took this course last semester. Barely passed. The Professor is a clear instructor and will help you but the course has very few tutors and there are at least 300 or more students in all sections combined. So there are not enough resources despite the teacher's efforts. I do not recommend this course. I had a 3.4 Gpa and this class ruined it.

Whatever you do, don't take this prof! He is very harsh with grading and makes his tests hard on purpose. He doesn't care about his students because if he did, he would actually teach and help them to understand the material. Spare yourself!!!!!

Dr. Loomis is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. I despise math, and I struggled in this course, but he did a great job of explaining the material. Homework is very important. Don't fall behind on material, because harder things are coming.

Barely lets you ever use a calculator and gives a lot of home work. Didn't open the book once and most of the quizzes and really hard you have to study for them and the tests.

He's a really nice guy, kinda funny sometimes. He's definitely a little challenging though. He is highly dependent on MyMathLab homework that is due once or twice a week. There are some questions that he won't fully answer because he wants you to think of the steps or the answer.. basically he won't give you an answer straight up if you need help.

Number Theory is Dr. Loomis's passion, so try to get him for it if you can! He's a fair grader. If you take good notes, you don't need the book to do the problem sets (homework). The Number Theory final was the only final I've ever taken and honestly enjoyed. Very approachable person! Ask him about his Darth Vader mask song!

He's a tough grader, sometimes to an unfair extent. He also rarely responds to e-mails, which is a big pet peeve of mine. Those minor things aside, Loomis is a great teacher and a brilliant guy. You can immediately tell he's very passionate about mathematics, and you'll learn a lot from him.

Great Professor. I had a little trouble at the beginning, but he was very helpful. You can always go to him and he will explain things. There is a quiz once a week, so its hard to miss a class, but still a great professor

An amazing math professor. I took AP Calc in high school and I never understood anything I was doing, I would just memorize example problems and then do them. Dr. Loomis actually TAUGHT our class and everything he said made perfect sense. The quizzes can be slightly difficult and the tests too but there are no surprises. Go to class and do the HW!

Awesome teacher. He is very interested in the success of his students and offers a lot of help. His notes and examples are very clear. His tests are designed to be a bit diffictult, but the final is not as hard as the other exams. This clas required a lot of studying, but Loomis really taught me a lot.

Loomis is an excellent math teacher. His explanations are clear and he makes things fun by throwing in jokes now and again. The tests can be quite difficult, but it isn't anything that you wouldn't see coming if you paid attention in class. He is very relaxed, and understanding when it comes to partial credit and curves when the class does poorly.

Funny and interesting guy. The class is a joy to take with him. He gives homework every night, but you get a grade for it that's based on the work, not the correct answers. Quizzes aren't too bad if you study, and the tests can be difficult, but as with the quizzes, studying is the key to success.
