Can't believe Paul passed away. He was one of the kindest, most reasonable professors I have had at SFU. When I needed help and went to his office hours, he was approachable and helped me with the course's homework. His death is such a shock to me, but I know he will be missed by many.

Lectures were pretty interesting, though you could learn all of it from the book. Would sometimes go off on a tangent, which made things interesting and gave nice background to some stuff.

Incredibly easy course. Read the textbook, no need to go to lecture. You can find old midterms online and they're almost exactly the same. Easy to get 100% on the midterm, although the final is a lot harder and a little less obvious. Not a difficult A- to achieve though.

Lectures are horribly boring and useless, dont bother attending. The class is ok I just became very bored and uninterested because it got very boring. Read the text and you should do ok. Final is way easier then the midterm

The textbook (written by Dr. McFetridge) is very easy to read, though the 4 chapters were not explicitly examinable. The exams and assignments were very straightforward. It is easy to get a good grade in this course, but near impossible to get an A+ (no one got an A+ this semester), which required over 98% in the course.

Final was easier than midterm, so I don't know where to begin. This has been regarded as an "easy course", which it very well may be by a lot of people, but you still need to memorize a number of rules (which won't really help you anywhere else) to pass his exams.

There is such things as being too clear. The textbook, slides and lectures were all the same (seeing as he wrote the textbook). The lectures were really dry and it was hard to keep focused. There's an old midterm of his floating around the internet somewhere that was really useful for studying.

His lectures are really dry, but he did admit he had a monotonous tone. But, honestly, both his midterms and final exam was easy (given you've studied). If you're good with words and rules, and memorizing it (sort of like math formulas), you'll find this course super easy. Lectures are not mandatory, but read the book! He wrote it and it's good!

honestly...he's really boring. i admit i skipped 90% of the entire semester. however i rocked the final so i got a B. if u missed class, his lecture notes won't help. his textbook however is AMAZING. seriously, i don't think i could've gotten that mark if it wasnt for the textbook. but do read carefully cuz its ALOT of readings!! have fun !!

Boring all the time. Attending the lecture is not useful. The ONLY thing you can do is trying to memorizing all the stuff in the textbook. Moreover, the textbook is complex and not logical. Good luck!

Useless professor, rambles during class. Lectures consist of examples straight out of the textbook. Gives NO indication as to what will be covered on the midterm other than a vague 20 min review consisting of him breaking down the structure of one word. GPA booster only for those with access to previous exams. WORST PROF EVER.
