I don't understand why everyone likes him so much. He was completely unclear about what he wanted on papers except "profundity" and would not give useful feedback. You didn't have to go to class or pay attentions because he said the same things every class. Not much work, but a hard grader on what little work there was. Would not have taken it.

The course will definitely make you think, if not in the way you expect. I came out of it knowing plenty about Coastal Geology but even more about dealing with large-scale companies and picky clients, something I think is very helpful for my future. Pinet was amazing as always; if only everyone in the world could hear his stories.

Arguably the best professor at Colgate. If you ask any student who has taken a course with Pinet, especially Ecology, Ethics & Wilderness or Technology & the Human Prospect, I am confident many would enthusiastically agree. Years later the lessons and understanding imparted by Pinet have not only stayed with me, but deeply impacted my life.

sick teacher... lectures are very interesting and he really knows how to make otherwise bland material come to life. not only that, but you learn to understand the stuff rather than just know about it. TAKE THIS CLASS

If you want to take oceanography as an easy non-lab science to fulfill your requirements, don't take it with him! Take it with the other professor. The lectures are fairly boring and the tests are hard. However, if this is your thing, he knows his stuff and you will get the serious class you probably want.

Ecology, Ethics, and Wilderness is a very interesting course. However, Pinet is a bit inaccessible. He will make you think, but he lectures from a podium and is barely audible. The course would be much more effective if taught as a small discussion class. I was disappointed.

PROFESSOR PINET IS AMAZING! He made oceanography fascinating and you don't just take away knowledge from this class...you gain UNDERSTANDING and if you are lucky-- WISDOM, but only if you snag a sip out of his glorious red mug--the source of all his brillance. A challenging class but SO worth it. baby beluga wants you to take this class! GET IT

I'm not gonna lie, you need to think like him to get a good score on your papers. He grades hard at the beginning then eases up, usually ending with a high score. He will give you a good grade if you act like you're interested in the topic, and if you say what he wants to hear. Great professor, take him.

Prof. Pinet is a very nice man with a lot of interesting things to say. The class is boring if you don't put anything into it, but when you care it is extremely rewarding. Ask him about his adventures climbing, and go to him for help on papers.

Professor Pinet is the frickin man. He is not an easy teacher, but if you show improvement over the semester, you are more than likely to get a good grade. He pushes you to really dig deep into your thoughts. You will leave his class a much different writer with many new ideas. TAKE HIM!

Technology and the Human Prospect was the best class I took at Colgate. I still think about something from the class nearly every single day. Pinet is a wise man and make you look at normal things from wild new angles.

GREAT PROFESSOR, class changed my life. Very passionate about what he teaches. VERY approachable and helpful in office hours. Interested in kids as students and as people. 2 papers, midterm, verbal final and participation = grade. Class is not a breeze but do-able. GOOD GUY -> TAKE HIS CLASS!

Very interesting, although many of the classes/readings attack the same key point in different ways. Papers are rather difficult to do well on at first, but you will probably improve as the course progresses. A must-take, as it really will alter your view of modern society.

Yeah, I definitely haven't had a mind blowing experience. I wish I'd learn more scientific stuff though. Never thought I'd say that, but there isn't really an emphasis on ecology and wilderness, so much as ethics.
