He is really easy on those he likes. However, he is automatically harder on females than on males and dislikes science or engineering majors. If you happen to be both, forget it. **** and ultimately veyr arrogant. To be fair, he really does know his stuff.

8-10 homework hours each class; required us to meet out of scheduled classes, skipped breaks, went 10-15 minutes over EVERY DAY, talked non-stop and dwarfed discussion or anything Dr. Engle had to say. Smart man but loves himself too much to do anything but lecture. Easy grader on papers, though.

He was not a bad grader. I was always surprisingly pleased by my papers. He lets you pick from good subjects. I did not like the way that he was constantly talking in Greek, which I do not know so it was easy for me to get lost. The subject matter was interesting, but I would never take him again.

He's a happy sadist. If he's teaching a seminar, take it (not sure about the lecture classes). Gives good feedback on essays to students he likes. You will read a TON (14 plays for Shakespeare, plus The Price and another machiavelli). If he hates you for any reason, you're screwed, period.

Knows a LOT about what he's teaching, and can be very interesting: but can also be rather hard to keep up with. Has too few office hours, and HATES people being late to class. OK if you like the subject or are just a good student; else consider avoiding.

Prof. Rahe is a wonderful professor, but I would only recomend him to history majors. He knows his stuff and loves to go in depth. If you don't like to read or don't like history, do not take his class. He's tough, but good.
