Comment:

Nice old guy but he is a terrible teacher. He constantly makes mistakes when writing out theory on the board but doesn't realize it until way into the exercise. If you ask him a question he is terrible at communicating with students. He does not know how to relate to young people nor does he seem to be able to understand what students are asking.

Confusing, all over the place, messes up fifteen times each lecture. If you have a question, he won't understand it, and if he does, he does a terrible job explaining it. He looks like a nice old man, but randomly throws in evil comments that make you double-take. He had another class after ours, and so rushes/yells at us when taking quizzes.

I did not learn anything from this class. He was extremely confusing and did not explain what he was doing. Also, he made copious mistakes making it impossible to learn from him. I am praying for a miracle in passing this class.

He clearly explained concepts during class and was willing to work homework problems. Most of the time, he "over-explained" certain problems, however it shows that he is very knowledgeable and intelligent:) Extremely easy class if you put in the effort and time. I'd take another class by him!

He is very smart, but he makes mistakes often when doing problems in class. Take note of the steps he uses to solve problems, not necessarily what he says. He can be confusing. Meet with him during office hours even if he isn't helpful because he will remeber you. Overall he means well, but isn't the easiest teacher to learn from.

Very easy grader. Generous partial credit given if you have at least some clue. Unfortunately, he is forgetful and messes up examples frequently in class. Should avoid if you aren't strong enough in math to spot his errors in the examples. However, he is very intelligent and knows the material, he just makes a lot of simple mistakes.

His class is very easy as long as you pay attention to what is going on. This quarter he used WebAssign for homework, which if he does again I highly recommend doing them all, they are a great study tool. He's really old and a little out of it but I personally think he was really clear during instruction.

Really nice man who gives a lot of partial credit. His lectures were a little hard to follow, because he is a little forgetful and is not that great about explaining his work. If you do the recommended problems then you will be fine.

Paul is a nice old man but he forgets what he is doing halfway through problems and gets himself as well as everyone else in the class lost. He also doesn't keep attention very well although sometimes his old man phrases are funny. If you want to actually understand math you could probably take Sang whose accent is strong but he has great logic

I agree with the others, Sontag is a very nice old grandpaish figure, but he can't teach his way out of a paper bag. He always screws examples up in class and makes you think easy stuff is hard. Don't take him, lectures are worthless and he confuses you more than he helps. if you have him, be on the lookout for misplaced #'s in his examples. AVOID

The most difficult thing about him is understanding his teaching in class. But, if you go to him for help after class, he will be glad to assist you with his help until you have a clear understanding. He's one of those teachers that only helps if you want help.

Very intelligent man. Semi-easy class if you just pay attention. Everyone who says he is terrible is probably one of the ones sitting in the back talking. Do the suggested problems, and you won't have an issue. Is fair on quizzes and homework, and will drop a few grades if he notices the class is struggling as a whole. Ask questions!!

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. he is a sweet old grandpa ish man but he CANNOT teach. he should retire. you need to teach yourself everything because he either doesnt get it, or leaves out steps when he attempts to explain it. i wouldnt reccommend his teaching skills to anyone. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Horrible teacher...always messes up on his own examples. You have to be able to teach the information to yourself. He is available to help but don't bother because you still won't understand. Don't take him if you can avoid it.

sontag is TERRIBLE i will never take him AGAIN!!! he is a senile old man who has no control of his class and does not seem to ever know what he is talking about. i had to go over every test with him because he marked so many answers wrong that were really right, it brought test grades up by letters.retire PLEASE!!

I have never failed a class in my life until I had this professor. It is not the class, it involes simple algebra, it is the teacher! He solves a problem five hundred ways and then scratches them out leaving the first one which probably had a mistake to begin with so notes are useless if you cannot teach yourself DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
