Took his class, and made it out alive but when it came time to graduate, I approached him for a recommendation letter, and he insulted me based on my grade.

If you are a good test taker and understand the way he writes his questions you'll do fine. I am personally terrible got out of the class with a C. Friend is amazing at taking tests, didn't put any work in and got out with the same grade. This class has nothing to do with actually learning the material.

GO TO HIS LECTURES! He is a pretty funny guy but sometimes loses his temper. But going to his lectures is essential to passing the class. Print out the lecture slides before class and take notes on them during the lecture. Do not expect the class to be easier than BIO 105! Good Luck!

Has some pretty entertaining lectures, which helps when studying a topic like this. Don't skip class, there's more to it than just lecture. Study the slides before coming into class. Study a week in advance before the exams, as they're not too hard, but definitely not a cakewalk. Don't get on his bad side, he has a huge temper. But he can be nice.

Do me a favor. If you can take similar course in another school by all means do it because this prof has boring lectures and his exams are long and hard. He just reads off the slides and b.s the lectures by telling his ridiculous stories. He says one thing at his review sessions and when it comes to take the exam it's like wth is this? Stay away!!

He's a pretty nasty person, and the only thing he does during his lectures is show powerpoint slides, which are provided for students on Blackboard already. To pass his tests, it's ALL self study. Make sure to read the textbook and lab manual (as well as the slides), because most likely, the powerpoint slides will not be enough to pass his tests.

Not easier than Ma. Subject matter is very boring and lectures are just him reading off the slides. Lab can be difficult to very easy depending on the lab professor. Do not be fooled by other reviews, go into the class expecting extreme difficulty and you will be fine.

Those that rated Dr. Chabora poorly are the ones that didn't try. Brilliant, stunning lecturer (best in qc by miles); eager to help before lecture/in office; however messy slides (take good notes for clarification) along with enormous piles of phylogenies to study. Not easier than Ma, but more straightforward. Enjoyable course. Best of luck.

Comment:
Dr. Chabora is really nice guy and a pretty good lecturer. The subject matter of 106 is pretty boring, especially for the first two tests, but he makes it somewhat interesting. But, one thing needs to be clarified: THIS IS NOT EASIER THAN 105 WITH MA. I came in expecting that and was very surprised on the first test. He is just as hard as Ma.

No computers allowed kinda doesn't make his lectures better. This class was a bit of a headache. But it's bio, so what can you say? Exams are a tad bit better than Ma's but still pretty rough. There's so many groups you have to know. Don't expect an easy A.

Its a tough class. You have to know a lot and you will be tested on a wide range of knowledge. With that in mind you have to praise chabora for making a very intense class passable. you have to study. a lot. Hes a nice guy though sometimes he loses his temper randomly. has interesting digressions in boring lectures to make it bearable. work hard.

Not sure why his ratings are so low. Great lecturer. His class is definitely doable, as long as you put in the time. I would study a week in advance of tests and learn the slides inside and out. Didn't bother with the text. Got an A. If you approach him during his office hours, he is the sweetest guy. Lab is also an easy 40 points or so.

Señor Chabora is an awesome dude. I took him a few semesters ago, got an A+. After taking pokay ma, Señor Chabora was a welcome respite. He just returned from sabbatical. Embrace the wisdom and absorb his experiences. He's a jolly old man, chat with him in office hours. Peace.

This is, by no means, an easy class. There is just so much information to learn for each exam. Chabora tries his best to make his student's lives easier by giving very detailed slides. He is a great lecturer. All I can say is.. study, study, and study some more. Getting an A is not impossible. No curves.

The class is not nearly as hard as Pokay Ma's 105. Everything on his slides. One of the most arrogant people I've met, and has a short temper if you don't follow his instructions.

He's a good lecturer, but that's all he is good for. This class is a pain. The slides aren't organized. He is one of the nastiest human beings I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. The Second exam is very difficult. It's the key to doing well. You must spend days preparing charts that list all the different organisms and their characteristics.

I'm likely not getting an A in this class, but I still found the class intellectually stimulating and challenging. It's college! We should expect to study hard. His exams were not at all surprising if you attended lectures and studied from his chapter outlines. He IS approachable if you don't waste his time. He's a rare gem at this school!
