Definitely lots of work, do all the readings and put a lot of effort in. If you show you care, work hard and talk to him one on one, you'll be fine.

Comment:
Capstone is a difficult class, and Gade is a difficult professor. Sometimes he gets off track in lecture and can be condescending, but he's intelligent and (usually) knows what he's talking about. The class is valuable even if he's difficult. Journalism majors HAVE to take it, so just grit your teeth, take notes, participate, and DO THE READING.

Dr. Gade is the worst sociopath in a school filled with sociopaths.

Comment:
Capstone isn't supposed to be easy, but Gade doesn't make it any bit enjoyable. His lectures are mostly him reminiscing on his past (he is the name-drop king), shouting his theories and if you don't agree with his ideas, he'll talk down to you. I'm sure he means well, but nothing about this class was pleasant.

I have taken two classes with this professor. He is great. I got a B for one and an A for the other. He is the best professor I have ever seen. I am an international student, but he made every point so clear that I had no difficulty understanding them. He is extremely helpful. He is a professor of genius!

He loves journalism, he is a bit scary at first. He is nice if you talk to him one-on-one. The tests are pretty easy, just go to class and take notes, and read all the newspapers!!

not a class for non-journalism majors. In reality, the class should be called 'news writing' instead of 'writing for mass media' as that is what the majority of the class is about.

Friendly on a good day. Doesn't take excuses. Will talk down to you. A lot of busy work. For tests, memorize the lists he puts up in class. Gets sidetracked and repeats stories. Easy to pass, if you do everything and you have an easy lab instructor.

Extremely time-consuming, but it is extremely helpful in all areas to learn these basic elements of writing, AP style, etc.

This class is insane. Its the gateway class for getting into the journalism college, so you better be ready to put forth some effort. Always go on tangents and sometimes seems to be yelling at the class, but has very clear, interesting lectures and stories to tell. But like I said- this class takes ALOT of time and effort.

The only people that hate Prof. Gade are the ones that fail. This is a weedout class. If you can't pass 2033, you won't be able to pass other JMC courses.

worst class ever. workload is way too much. talks down to students-- thinks we are all cheaters and plagiarizors. have never felt so emotionally beaten in a class. quizzes are stupid-- you just memorize stupid facts. lab was a complete waste of time. did not learn much for the amount of work for the class. take only if majoring in journalism. Gade is intensely egocentric and never stops bragging about his accomplishments, but that said, he's not a bad teacher either. His class can get annoying simply because of his pretensiousness, but it's never boring. Oh, and DON'T MISS HIS CLASS!

Gade is something else! He's a little odd and his class will kick your butt! The work load is exhausting (lecture and lab) but after it is all done you will be able to write for any future class you may have. M. Sutherlin is best for lab.
