Hales knows his stuff! He has a wicked sense of humor that once you recognize, you realize he's a great Professor! If you attend his lectures and actually listen, you'll learn more than any book can teach you. He provides you with everything you need to ace this class, all you have to do is listen!

I had Dr. Hales for History of Photography. Awesome professor. I'm an Econ major and only had taken AH 101, but received an A by attending class and studying for the exams on wikipedia (never cracked textbook). Super funny, and his abrasive sense of humor might make you think he's a jerk, but he seemed like a super nice guy.

i would not take this if i was expecting an easy 100 level course. hales is both rude and funny. do not be late to his lecture... he's one of those. he once REPEATEDLY insisted that a girl leave when she came in late, only to realize when she kept walking that she was deaf and her interpreter was waiting next to him!

Prof.Hales is a very specific/interesting person.Yeah he is all over the place but if you just make an effort to listen you will learn a lot from him. His tests are pretty straight foreword if u STUDY. I got an A in the class.

what a nutjob! couldn't stay on topic for any of the lectures. probably the hardest 100 level class I've ever taken. very unstructured class and tests. the only way I got through it was because of my TA.

His lecture on Native American art in the general art history was laudable in its depth and candor. He has a great sense of humor. Do not skip lectures believing that you can get all the info you need for the class. I also hear he works well with students

His overyl dramatic style can be a turn off to some, he intially seemed really arrogant to me but later I learned to look past that. his stuff came in handy this summer when i was wandering around the uffizi in florence,italy.

His style of teaching is melodramatic at times but he is pretty good about availability. Longer convo's should make an appt. BEWARE! The course is HEAVY on content with a LOT of people to remember. Don't miss lect as the book has WAY too much info!!!
