Comment:
Urban Studies with Prof Hoffman was not bad at all. Only 3 tests and a couple little writing assignments, not hard at all. He can talk forever, so take notes, but he always let us out early. Take notes in class and flip through the textbook and you'll be good. Very doable class, full of pretty interesting information about LA/surrounding cities.

Hoffman's course teaches you about LA, which is always interesting. He assigns small papers once in awhile, 2 midterms, one final and attendance is extra credit. His class isn't tough as long as you do the work. He's a good grader and a nice guy. You'll leave his class knowing much more about the world around than you did before.

Easy A as long as you show up and do the work, that's it! No exams but a few papers, including an easy ethnography (presentation included). Easy going and loves to tell stories. Took during summer session. Lectures can be long, but usually informative. I plan on taking him soon! Good feedback, no group projects.

Lectures can feel long, but nice guy. Make sure you read the textbook to at least answer the study guides and go to class. If you do that, no reason not to do well.

He is the nicest guy ever, really. If you're ever sick or need an extension for some reason, he is so understanding. His lectures don't exactly line up with test material, but if you read the book, you're fine. His tests are essay based and your really have to read to pass. Easy A though. Nothing out of the ordinary on the tests.

This class is really boring and it's hard to focusstay awake in his class because he goes off topic a lot and just over all isn't that great of a teacher...

Dr. Hoffman is the best! His lectures can get a little boring, and he goes off on tangents a lot but they're usually entertaining. His tests are pretty straightforward. Kinda a hard grader on assignments. Assigns textbooks, but you'll be ok w/ skimming, just need to know the key terms he gives. Overall, he's one of my favorite professors at LMU.

I wasn't interested in this class prior to taking it, but because of how great of a professor he was it turned out being my favorite class. He lectures a lot but it is always about interesting things which makes the class easy. Study a little before tests and you'll get an A

Took him for 5 classes. If you want to learn and enjoy a class then show up and pay attention. odds are your parents are paying for your education anyway so don't worry if it's boring, you might as well occupy a classroom before you go occupy wallstreet. Take his class, learn some good lessons and become a better person in the long run.

Not a strong lecture guy, tends to ramble and digress in class. Be sure to read the book because that will help you get a decent grade. Not bad of a class if you're stuck with it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

He is sooo boring. I almost fall asleep in every class. However, it is really easy to get a good grade. Make sure you read the chapters he assigns even though nothing he says pertains to what the book teaches. I would not take this class again unless I was having trouble sleeping at night.

One of the best teachers at LMU. This is the way all classes need to be. Less focus on the bs of school, and more focus on things in the real world. Hoffman should be president of LMU

He is really easy if you take his Metropolitan LA class in the spring. It's tied into the Los Angeles lecture series at LMU so you will spend the majority of the class going to panel discussions with other classes. The discussions are sometimes boring but you will learn a lot. Hoffman doesn't have a text for this class and exams are take home.

pretty chill. come to class, take notes, get review sheets for 2 tests and final, fill it out, and youll do ok. good notes = dont need a book. also, 4 written 1-2 page responses to given topics on videos or small articles or concepts or w/e. plus, hes pretty laid back and nice so i cant complain. if u need geog credit, take him.

Hoffman is an awesome professor. There wasn't a day I walked out of class not knowing something new. It also helps that I barely read and ended up with an A anyway.

At the beginning I really liked him. He seemed funny and knowledgeable. Then he just flipped, started asking all these weird questions about how much the girls in the class weighed. Made some questionable remarks. This could have been him just trying to connect with the class, but it did NOT work. He is not helpful in office hours at all!
