Comment:
The cornell site says that Mcclelland is retired, and he should be. He doesn't use email and, for the most part, lacks the ability to maintain a train of thought longer than 35 seconds. If you take this class, avoid going to lecture and read the book carefully instead.

I went to lecture to turn in my homework, and to make up for my lack of sleep (I'm an engineer). The auditorium chairs are really comfortable.

Everyday I go into class with such hopeful expectancy, and fall asleep within 20 minutes. I know I'm in good company, half the class naps or reads the Daily Sun. I don't know if its the mike or just the lulling candence of his voice that does it. Or maybe he's just really boring. To be fair, he seems to care, & his TAs are top notch.

I hadn't taken any economics before, and professor McClelland was great. Kinda boring, but remarkably knowledgeable with a great dry sense of humor. Not that hard if you pay reasonable attention and do the homework. I can see why many people didn't like him but I thought he was great.

Not the most interesting professor. His lectures were a bit dull and easy to nap in. However, the TA's are very good. They really know the material and helped me to understand the class.

Yes his lectures are boring, and yes he still writes on the blackboard with 300 kids in a lecture auditorium, but I gotta hand it to this guy he knows his stuff. Read his book of letters to his son, and you will get all you need to ace the exams and learn macroeconomics along the way.

his lectures are extremely unintersting, even if you come in wanting to get something out of the course. he tries to be amusingly tricky, but just ends up confusing.

Oh man I totally loved this professor. I mean sure, his lectures can sometimes be a snooze, but whose aren't?? And who says he doesn't care about his students?! I'll bet you one blue sports jacket and one samsonite briefcase that he does. And he always enters from the same door, at the exact same time every day! priceless. Go McClelland, go!

His lectures are awful and completely useless. Good luck learning anything from them. All the problem sets are full of trick questions making it harder to learn the material, not that he teaches it very well anyway. Only helpful part of this course is office hours.

Avoid this guy like the plague! Doesn̢۪t give a rats behind about students, and has very condescending attitude. Assumes that the only way that students can learn is with a bullwhip! Refuses to post HW & exam solutions online, and gives out HW that is due on the day of exam! After 3 years, at Cornell, this is my worst experience thus far!

If you take 102 with this guy, you better have a background in economics going into it. He is so confusing...I was lost after the 2nd day, and regret having such a bad experience in a class I was really hoping to get something out of. Wait until Spring to take this class, for the love of god!

Yes 101 is definitely a sleeper...I wish he would just cut to the chase and let us out early. Exams can be tricky. If you have a good TA (one who speaks english) the class shouldn't be a problem. Dear God in his study guides we writes like he talks but they are ok.

Comment:
Economics is a dry subject, and McClelland tries valiantly to clarify and simplify it. His dry personality and sense of humor don't help...Seems somewhat intimidating and difficult to approach, but is one of CU's highly acclaimed professors.
