some professors succeed in injecting their charisma into large lectures, but not rizova. i LOVED the subject material, but anything i needed to know came from the book. and even then the tests were hard and confusing.

shes really smart, knows the material really well, and she's hilarious if you can stay awake long enough to listen to her jokes. her accent is really cool and not hard to understand at all. i had the class early so i had a hard time concentrating but if you read the textbook her tests aren't too bad.

Really.. the accent doesn't get in the way of her teaching at all. She's actually pretty funny but no one ever responds. She puts all of her slides online so it's not necessary to always come to class. If you need this class for a social science requirement, I say go for it. She's super nice and it's a fairly easy class and she can be entertaining

Her accent is not an issue, but she does read off slides which makes her lectures nearly unbearable. Her exams are very specific and not really practical considering the information she's taught (mainly, very basic thoughts on very complex topics). She's not big on going out of her way for her students. Not the worst, but you could do better.

First off, anybody claiming that her accent makes her difficult to understand clearly does not have a grasp on the english language themselves. However, I wasn't too fond of her teaching. She is somewhat repetitive. Also, as others have said, she often reads off of slides. I learned more doing the assignments than listening to her lectures.

Polly really knows her stuff and she teaches it in an informal as well as informative style. While I havent learned a terrible lot of material, I have learned about social theories, which in turn has helped me understand better the history of the world. Polly is trapped however by the subject matter, I wish I ahd her for more classes

I'm surprised by the below comment. I was often very pleased by Rizova's eloquence in speaking. Yes she uses slides and reads from them but then she continues to speak with much comfort an ease.With that said, I believe this class should stray from the textbook since we're already reading it anyways! Discussion section was enjoyable.

Not very intelligent nor is she a good public speaker. Reads from her slides created years ago and has no sense of time mangement in terms of tests and exams. Extremely easy class though, take it to get the social science requirement out of the way.

Polly Rizzova was a nightmare. I cannot express how horrible she is at teaching. This woman is extremely unclear. She likes to call people out in class and embarrass them when she knows that htey dont know the answer. Count your points bc she doesnt know how to add up totals either!
