Some of the comments below say she is hard to understand, but I disagree. Yes, she has an accent, but you can understand what she is saying. I was excited about having a bilingual professor teach about social stratification. If you have a curious mind and like intellectual stimulation, you will appreciate Lam. She's great and helpful.

Comment:

One of my absolute favorite professors. She is respected highly, very knowledgeable, and takes great pride in her teaching. As she should, she excels at it. I have always learned so much from her. I definitely recommend others who are passionate about learning and social change to take her courses whenever able to.

Honestly one of the best teachers I've had at EWU. She gives great feedback on assignments. There is A LOT of work in this class though, and there was a lot of material to cover. I definitely recommend doing work over the course of a few days. Her questions require critical thinking in order to answer them. A challenging but rewarding class.

Work load is overwhelming and no wonder students struggle in her classes. If you want to LEARN about sociology, this is not the class. She crams large articles in ridiculously small windows. Easy grade if all you do is answer questions and not grasp the information. Unfortunately she doesn't care about quality, as she gives quantitis of readings.

She has made me hate Sociology when i've done so well in the program (3.7). I can officially say she is worse then Prof. Hechtman in the Sociology Department. Makes it almost impossible to be in 2-3 upper level courses & work, as she gives one to two 35+ page articles to read and answer questions within 2 days. Grades based on her interpretations.

She is awful. Terrible english (strong accent), if you ask her a question she answers with a response that doesn't pertain to the question. She gives few multiple choice questions and grades insanely hard on her essay questions. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE!

Brought interesting material to class but presented it terribly.Nice lady who is passionate about subject but not a great teacher.If you can,avoid her as you do not get the most out of this class because of the way she structures the class.Offers Take home exams but doesn't help as she is not too clear as what she wants on exams even when you ask

Nice person, AWFUL professor. Requirements for assignments are really unclear & confusing because she's got them spread out in multiple locations on canvas. Her grading is inconsistent. I highly recommend avoiding her classes if at all possible.

WORST professor I have ever had! Cannot understand her, she doesn't grade on your work she grades on whether she likes you or not, most boring content ever, and does not email you back; only to say, "please see syllabus about email etiquette," she is not helpful whatsoever.

Dr. Lam is extremely knowledgeable in Sociology and constructs the class to help you launch off into your own field and achieve your potential. Any poor rating for her is because those students aren't going to make anything of their lives due to the fact that they want to be spoon-fed everything. If you want to achieve something, take Lam.

She was very knowledgable in her field and enjoys teaching. She provided interesting ourside resources. She always had a paper review on the readings due at the end of the week, which were simple and she allowed you to miss 2. Her tests had study guides and you have an in class study day but it seemed like the study guide wasn't related to the test

Great Prof. Everything is based off of the readings that she hands out in class (and there are a lot of them) but you discuss them a lot. She loves to play devils advicate so she is not always clear on whether you are grasping the concepts. Our research papers where long but broken up so it was easier to work on them. Fun and enthusiastic.

Pretty boring, but also pretty easy if you go to class. She prints out notes for all lectures and gives study guides for the tests. Easy weekly short papers, and only 3 tests. Her accent isn't that bad, but it can get on your nerves. Summary-BORING, EASY, try another teacher if you actually want to be interested
