She is a very understanding professor who wants her students to do well, BUT the class should not be as difficult as it is. If you are not a good reader 100% do not take this class, if you are not a good writer she will destroy your papers but overall a nice lady

Hardest class of my life. Intro to Sociology should not have been as difficult as it was. Spent on average 3+ hours SKIMMING the readings assigned for each class. Ridiculous rules (can't use bathroom, wear hats, etc.) Do not take unless you are planning to major in Sociology & are an extremely hard worker.

I took several classes with Professor Monson and each one was absolutely incredible. She challenged me to think critically and challenge myself. I learned more from her than I ever imagined. I never left class without my mind being blown. Her passion is palpable. Take every class you can with her. It's totally worth it

She is the best teacher I have ever had. She will make you a better student and help you in becoming an actively aware global citizen. This course should be a requirement for any student. She encourages active learning by "keeping you on your toes" and you truly become more knowledgable about what sociology is and does. I will miss being in class

Go into a class with Professor Monson willing to put thought and effort into your work and you will get so much out of it-- she's a great teacher with high standards because she wants to push students to do the best that they can. Definitely one of the best profs I've had at HWS.

VERY HARD. Helpful, but you'll be VERY stressed over her classes. I'm an A student and I REALLY struggled in her class-lots of readings, lot of essays, discussion based class. will randomly ask you questions in class. her classes are nerve-wracking. Only take a class by her if your other classes are easy: for her you'll spend ~7 hrs on hw per class

Professor Monson is a very kind person with a lot of knowledge. However, as a professor she has extremely high standards. I went into the course trying to decide if I liked Soc or Psych more, and I have decided I prefer psychology.

Hardest class I've ever taken, but also the most rewarding. She has changed my life and made me want to major is sociology after the first day of class. Read every bit of information she give you, every day starts with a quiz where she randomly calls on someone.

Interesting topics but VERY HARD. intimidating to a point of tears. You MUST do ALL of the readings (READ EVERY WORD) and there are verbal quizzes every class which will keep you on your toes. unless you want to be stressed all semester i dont recommend this class. chew on thatttt mmmm ya

You HAVE to read in her class...her tests are very specific when it comes to the books (even multiple choice questions) so skimming is not an option...but the books are pretty good. Also an amazing teacher and curves her tests.

She is simply an AMAZING teacher and woman. Her Intro class made me decide to major in Sociology and her Sex and Gender class has changed my life. I really thought her and I would clash...but after one week this woman became my role model! I never learned as much at HWS than I did taking her classes. She's approachable and smart and her classes are anything but dull since she keeps you on your toes. Tough but amazing!
