Comment:

Dr. Kessel is one of my top three teachers I've had the pleasure to meet in my lifetime. I came into this class with a chip on my shoulder. I'm a very charismatic person, I've never had trouble speaking publicly, and on top of that, this was a required class. Dr. Kessel not only changed my mind but left me inspired and taught me a valuable skill.

Rich is the best professor Ive ever had. His teaching style is EXCEPTIONAL. Each speech is graded the same way, which seemed really scary, but in fact allows you to be the best public speaker you can be. You are able to see your progress through his grading method and his feedback is precise. I cant say enough good things about him and his class

Dr. Kessel is such an amazing guy. He cares for his students so much; he will even give you his cell number if you need help. I thought that the lectures were kinda boring but that just goes with this subject matter. If you have to take a public speaking class, DEFINITELY take Dr. Kessel!!

I never thought I would enjoy public speaking until Rich Kessel. He gives great feedback and tries his hardest to make all of his students feel comfortable. If you are required to take public speaking, take from Kessel.

Honestly he may be the best teacher I have ever had. He cares about what he is teaching, he wants everyone too pass and will try his hardest to make sure that happens. The course is hard but he explains everything thoroughly and is very accessible by email. I was so terrified to take public speaking , but he has taught me how to be confident

Dr. Kessel is the best professor I've ever had! I looked forward to his class everyday. He changed my life! He'll make you work for your grade, but it'll be so worth it! He gives a lot of extra credits too. He cares about his students very deeply. Do EVERYTHING you can to take his class! You'll love public speaking so much after taking his class!

Professor Kessel is awesome. The very first day in his class, he made us all feel at complete ease, knowing that we were nervous to be speaking in front of everyone. He started off with notes on speaking and small speaking exercises before we got into speeches. His grading for the speeches was simple. Just do your best. He himself is shy, but kind.

Such an amazing class. I was terrified going into public speaking and thought the teacher was going to have one of those awful coffee cans with change in them so every time you said a negative word like "um" or "uh" they rattle the can. This professor goes beyond that he makes you comfortable to be in front of many classmates.

Awesome professor! Creative teach style, does not follow the book but instead make the whole class material relatable that goes on to help in other classes that require speeches. Would recommend everyone taking this class.

Dr. Kessel does something I wish more teachers did. Create an environment for students to flourish. He gives you the tools and understanding you need to make very effective speeches. He encourages you to present things you care about or are passionate about. This class never felt hard because I was learning public speaking through my passion.

What an evoking professor. He puts a lot of thought, time and effort into this course - and it really shows. I learned so much in this course and he found a great way to incorporate neuroscience into backing up a lot of these fundamental public speaking skills.

He is an extremely difficult grader and it ruined my 4.0 gpa. He offers a lot of extra credit but even that couldn't save my grade. Its a lot of work, and homework. You could have the most perfect speech and outline prepared and you still wont get better than a C. I got a B and it was the highest grade in my class.

Rich wants you to learn not only the material, but about yourself as well. Sometimes he may tell you something that he himself does not use, but is clearly correct. All the advice he gives is very helpful. Some things might also take a while to understand what he is saying. Grading might seem unfair at times, but try your hardest to get an A.

Public speaking sucks but Dr. Kessel's class is as good as it gets. Four speeches, midterm, and a final with chances of extra credit. Do everything and you'll get an A. Grading seems a bit weird at first and you also do not really need the book except for the one chapter you present to the class. He also gives lots of feedback.
