Spends a lot of time in class proving theorems and shortcuts that you won't be tested over. Drops the lowest test grade at end of semester

He is a very nice guy. I had him for linear algebra. He taught straight from the book and that made the lecture very boring. He does not take attendance and posted all of his materials on line (notes, what homework to do). He also emails you whenever there is a test, quiz, or hw assignment coming up. If you like to skip class, take him.

Math is really hard for me, but this guy made it a lot better. He was always available outside of class for help, and he didn't make me feel stupid for asking questions. Absolutely recommend him.

This was an extremely hard class for me. He likes to throw curve balls on the exams, and they are definitely not easy. It was possible for me to get in A but after the first 2 test I had to be in the lib almost every day.

Richard Belshoff, overly explains useless subjects that you will not see on his tests. He won't tell you or give hints on what will be expected on his tests. Hands out practice tests AND practice problems which are NOT even close to what you think is to be expected for your exams. No quizzes to dilute the grade, either. HW worth hardly any points.

Belshoff was a great math professor! He was very helpful and made sure you understood the material before moving on. He repeats himself a bit, but it's not terrible. He gives quizzes but he always tells you when they are and what they are over. I am taking an 8am math next semester just so I can have him, so that should tell you something!

If you have questions he is very willing to help and will stop whatever he is doing (including the lecture) to help you. You will need to do the homework and study just like any other math class. Plus he has put extra credit questions on tests.

Dr. Belshoff is one of the best teachers at MSU by far, and that's saying a lot considering that it's math. He's very good at answering questions and can tend to over-explain things to make sure you understand. There are lots of quizzes but he's not a tough grader. I definitely recommend Dr. Belshoff!

Honestly, this was the WORST professor I have ever had. Horrible organization. He taught the class and then the tests were nothing like what he was teaching. More than half the class dropped his class because of how ridiculous his class was. I can promise you that you have to be a genius to pass this class. CHOOSE someone else. Save yourself.

He really engages the class in lectures, sometimes over-explaining to make sure everyone understands what he is talking about. His grading is very fair, usually only -1 for arithmetic mistakes on a 10 points question as long as you show that you understand the concepts. Most tests have bonus questions and he sometimes offers bonus assignments.10/10

I took his class over the summer term, which meant it was a little bit more fast paced. I didn't have trouble keeping up though. His lectures are easy to follow along and he can be somewhat entertaining with his quirkiness. Definitely one of the best math teachers I've ever had.

Dr. Belshoff is an awesome teacher! I would highly recommend taking a class from him. I took MTH261 with him and I would highly recommend it. His tests are fairly straight forward with minimal algebra. He is more concerned with concepts than messy simplifying/ algebra. He's also always more than happy to answer questions and explain anything.

He's a good teacher, especially for math because it's hard for many people to understand. He tends to lose his train of thought sometimes and welcomes corrections when he messes up. He's funny in a goofy-math-geek way. A few quizzes and 2 tests make your score before the final but show up and interact in class and you'll do great. Take his class!

Dr. Belshof is one of the best teachers at MSU period. Very smart precise and clear. Easy to follow and he is passionate about the subject, which makes it enjoyable to come to class and actually listen to the lectures. The exams are easy to pass as long as you know the basic concepts in each section. Tests are easy.

Dr. Belshoff knows the subject matter very well. His notes are very clear and understandable. For MTH 315, we didn't need to turn in the suggested homework assignments. However, if you wanted to do well on quizzes (which were taken every Friday) and tests, doing the homework helped tremendously. I ended up with an A, but I studied often! Good luck.

This professor is very kind and cares about his students. His tests are very difficult, but if you do the homework and keep up with the class you will be fine. He always responded to my e-mails almost immediately and is willing to help you anytime you need it. I highly recommend this teacher, but you must be willing to work hard.

Hilarious and very very nice! He is not the kind of teacher that demands respect from people, and I hate when people purposely don't come to class except for test days- that is disrespectful. He was kind, always willing to help, and if you really listen he explains accurately. Sometimes can be a bit scattered, but obviously a mathematician

This professor is bittersweet. He explains things in a very clear and precise manner. The notes he gives are proficient and easily understood. However, Dr.Belshof's tests are the hardest tests I have ever taken. Most of his tests focus greatly on theories, definitions, and proofs. His final was almost all theory, and no computation. Be prepared.
